Welcome to the other side!
I stored mine in Tupperware, then wrapped in with foil, saran wrap and then a plastic bag! I still doubt it will be edible in a year, but we'll try it anyway

My cake top was in saran wrap, then in tin foil, then in tupperware, and after a year it was pretty gross. Pat's cousin and her boyfriend, who are both divorced, were here late on the night of our anniversary when we remembered we hadn't eaten the cake. After looking at it, we decided not to eat it, but they convinced us to take a taste after they pointed out that neither of them ate their cake tops on their anniversary, and they are now divorced!

To start with, my cake was covered in rolled fondant, which acted as a protective shield over our cake. Then, it was wrapped in Saran twice, and then in two plastic bags. Personally, I didn't think this was enough to keep it fresh. But, on our anniversary, it was delicious!!! Almost as good as on our wedding day! But, I think the fondant really made all the difference.

I did the same thing as Teri did, and the cake was so delicious a year later.

First, congrats and welcome!! Second, my cake was wrapped in about 5 layers of tin foil, and it was soft and everything, but it tasted disgusting!! DH and I each had a taste because I didn't want to have bad luck and then tossed it right in the garbage. Now, my MOH, who got married 4 weeks before me, said her cake was absolutely delicious, even better then the day of the wedding -- so go figure!!!!

this is funny b/c I defrosted ours this weekend - only about 2 months post wedding. Hubbie absolutley REFUSED to eat it even now, let alone a year later... says its gross (he is very picky about food). I had a piece it was good, but had to defrost it b/c it was taking up like 1/2 our freezer. I had saran wrap and layers of tin foil, plus it was in the box... and it tasted just as good as they day we got hitched!

I am not married yet, but read your post and wanted to resond. A good friend recently got married and with all the stories of how your cake never lasts the year in the freezer, instead they froze it for a month and ate it on their first month anniversary with some lobster tails. That is what I plan to do. Also, many people get a mini replica of their cake (made fresh) for their 1st anniversary. That way you don't lose! JMO!

Congrats and welcome to this side.....
Let me just tell you know matter what you do it will probably not taste fresh -- I am not that superstitious so we decided to eat it on our 2 mo. anniversary. It was very good after it was defrosted but I only had the one slice so DH ate the rest of it all week long for breakfast haha!

I brought it home so we could have a slice when we returned from the HM (because there was no way I was eating year old cake). When we got back - we just looked at the cake and said 'nah'. I know it was still good to eat, we just didnt want to taint our cake memory with a stale piece. So in the trash it went.
What we did save is a bottle of champagne from the wedding...not sure when we will pop that open ...maybe at 10 years?

We froze our top and ate some for our 1 month anniversary and saved a piece to eat at one year. The whole top was too big to keep in the freezer for a whole year anyway! When I took it out for our 1 month I was able to wrap the cake better because it was hard. Wrapped it in many layers of plastic and foil and put it in a ziploc bag. I don't expect it to taste good and I'm not sure that's the point!

We also ate ours on our 1 month anniversary. The Crescent Club suggested it because they said the butter cream would be hard as a rock in a year. It was fun, we defrosted it and ate a piece each while we looked at our wedding proofs. I still have some in the freezer, but honestly it was not as good as the wedding day only a month later.

You guys are kind of convincing me to eat it sooner. I see it in the freezer everyday and it makes me want cake! Maybe we can eat some on our 2-month anniversary and save a small slice for the year. I have a really small freezer and the space could be used for better things..like meat!
