I have to get this off my chest

I have to get this off my chest

I posted this in the so-called 'ungrateful' gift thread, but I have to repost it in a new one because it's really bothering me.

You might have noticed I've been MIA lately and this is why -- I don't like what's happening around here lately. It seems like there are WAY too many fights and nasty comments going around and it's not fun anymore. Why does it have to get like this? I know when you're a B to B, it's very stressful, but once that craziness is over, it's fun (or it's supposed to be fun) and we all have fun on this side. No two people are alike, therefore there are always going to be differences in opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and nobody should take that away from you. Just remember the other people when stating that opinion.

It just seems like lately, you can't comment on the weather w/o a big bruhaha starting. I come on here to talk to my friends and get some levity in my day, not to hear this catty bull****.

I'm getting off my soapbox now.

well said

I liked the thread, and never got to finish reading it.

Everyone gets 'odd' gifts - its a bit of levity in our day, and if people don't appreciat that then they should ignore the post

I agree - it's not as fun here on the boards anymore. I think we all are capable of forgetting other's are pretty much guaranteed to have different opinions at times.

Edited to add: I think one of the main problems here, is that when one of us disagrees with the person's comment, they HAVE to post and add their 2 cents. I've been guilty too - but if the post doesn't ask for opinions, I now just leave them alone if I disagree - why get into a fight all the time? I don't have the energy.

Debbie, I miss you girl, please don't leave me here so lonely. I have been buggin Suzanne so much she must be sick of me now.

I come to the board to have fun and get away from all that is going on and for a thread to turn the way it did, it really turned me off. I was having so much fun too, but I will not let it change who I am. I still love ya girl.

We all need to remember it is only the internet. Let's laugh a little here, the world we are living in is serious enough for all of us

Aw Shamma, you make me feel so loved!! Right back at ya girlfriend!

And I'm going to also add one more thing -- if you don't like a particular thread, DON'T READ IT. Move on to one you like!

I agree with you 110% bears_babe. I ignore posts that get catty and don't always have to put in my 2 cents (on good days it might be 10 cents!!! LOL), why can't everyone else live by that rule too? Just like e-mail, the written word can't be taken as it would verbally. Please, isn't there enough going on in this world? I come here for an escape and to laugh and share fun things. Let's keep it that way!!!

Re: I have to get this off my chest

i'm more of a reader than poster (obvious right?)

but what i don't get is before my wedding it seemed like everyone who posted on brides helping brides board were PRE-marriage

and we all couldn't WAIT to read and come over to NEWLYWED board

not that this board should be elitist or not talk help out the brides to be but - really don't our shared experiences of having AREADY gone thru the marriage separate us a bit from those who are still giddy over the planning?

and if there are ?'s regarding wedding planning - old post searches could help?

i might go on parenting board just out of curiosity but i wouldn't post their b/c how would my experiences being someone W/OUT kids contribute to that board? and shouldn't I start posting there once i try to start conceiving or once the kids are had?

Re: I have to get this off my chest

It doesnt bother me when brides to be contribute on some questions of the day or such because usually the questions are more general relationship than after married specific. But it completely floors me when a bride to be will come over here to accuse the newlyweds of some perceived wrong doing! Its like going to the parenting board and saying that giving birth to a child is a piece of cake because i think it might be!! How would you know unless you have experienced it?

Anywho - Im glad to see that even on a heated thread like the gift one, we are all still laughing and sharing our stories. I think we should be proud of that!

Well said Deb....If someone don't like what someone says DON'T respond to it!!!!!!!!!!!
Just like TV, you can change the channel!

Period. The End!!

Re: I have to get this off my chest

I think the offering of different opinions can be a good thing, as long as it's done respectfully. People should be mindful of other's feelings, and not make a habit of putting others down simply b/c they don't share the same opinion. Agree to disagree is a fine compromise to me, but being a Libra, I prefer harmony over conflict any day of the week.

michele31 and I used to work for the same company, and we used to travel often with many of our collegues, sometimes for a week or more at a time to trade shows, industry events etc. We can tell you from that experience that being with the same group of people for so many days in a row, you do have a tendency to get on one another's nerves at times. There were plenty of nerves frayed and sometimes a disagreement, people snapping at one another, etc.

I know that a 'chat' board is not nearly the same as work, BUT many of us come here religiously - day in, and day out - and sometimes I guess it's possible that we get on one another's nerves. That sort of seems strange, considering we don't all know each other except through the computer, but I believe that people make certain 'assumptions' about us and our personalities based upon what we write. I don't think it's necessarily fair to assume, but it's human nature I guess. Am I making ANY sense, or should I just shut up?

Friends do not always agree, and that is fine. I think the important thing to remember is NOT to personally attack anyone. Like saying 'You ARE ungrateful', how can someone make that judgement call? Sometimes I think a lot of people just want comments like 'that is a great idea' even when people don't think it is. You should be honest, but respectful, that is what a real friend would do.
Also, always remember that a computer can be misread. Without hearing someone's tone you can think someone was angry when the whole time they were laughing aloud.

Re: I have to get this off my chest

I have to agree with everyone on here ... actually Deb, I was keeping my two cents to myself until Shamma graciously gave them to me!

But we miss you and hope that you don't leave us to miss you! I really was wondering where you have been hiding!

I even told Shamma that if the cattiness (sp?) continues we should have separate Newlywed boards ... ... I'm just kidding about that, but seriously it's distressing sometimes! Especially when we come on here to have fun, share a problem, look for some guidance or advice, etc ... and wind up in a heated agrument!

But just remember that we have developed a lot of wonderful friendships that even when I do get aggravated, I can't think of leaving you lovely ladies!!! I mean it is a pleasure to hear a funny story from you Deb about Joe, hearing decorating ideas from Michele, or reading a lovely story about Claud's son, looking for bargain buys from Anna, Suzanne's TV review, Sonicstef's advice on photoshop, Natasha's QOTD, Shamma's peekshures and everyone, everyone else (all of you ladies) that add some sunshine to my day, everyday!!! The cattiness can't overpower that!!!

OK ... now call me a sap but ... can't we all just get along????

Re: I have to get this off my chest

I'd say I missed you Deb, but since I talk to you almost every day...
But I really did miss seeing you around here, and I couldn't agree with you more.

To anyone who wants to come here and start a riot PFFFFFFT! (my best Bronx cheer )
Go fight with someone who cares and leave us alone!

Now do we all join hand and sing Kumbaya??
