I just had such a nice day =)
Hee Hee...sorry, I hit enter before I got to post my story!
Paul has been w/his grandparents all weekend b/c Jeff and I had a wedding on Fri nite. Today, we slept in and had a diner breakfast...this is eventful for us, since we have a specific breakfast 'routine' when Paul is around. Then we hit a few dealerships b/c we are in the process of shopping for a bigger car.
As we were car shopping, we started driving East and just kept going. We talked, laughed, and stopped to shop and walk around as we went. We ended up in Greenport for the day and had an early dinner at Claudio's. The appetizer food was fantastic. Dinner, unfortunately didn't turn out as well - as I was eating my Shrimp Scampi, I noticed the shrimp weren't fully de-veined!
Now, I *never* am the type to 'send something back' but I could not get past the fact that they left the shrimp 'waste' in my dinner - talk about an appetite killer! So, I told the waiter, very politely and asked if they could prepare a new serving of just the shrimp, but make sure no veins! He brought my dish back to the chef and returned to our table with a big fat NO!
Can you imagine? He said I could choose ANYTHING else from the menu and they'd rush it out to me, but that they would not prepare another dish of shrimp b/c they WERE de-veined properly. So basically, he's calling me a liar.
I look at DH, and I quietly tell the waiter, No thanks, than I guess I won't have anything. I really just wanted my scampi back. I have NEVER heard of a restaurant treating a customer like this before. I don't think we'll ever go back, just on principle.Anyway, Jeff finished his meal and we leave. We stop for ice cream (b/c I now had a void to fill, LOL) and stroll hand-in-hand to the docks. There was such an incredible breeze on the water today that it reminded me of Tahiti. We stole a few smooches as we watched the sailboats. I told my hubby that I am falling in love w/him more and more everyday. It is truly amazing to me how much love I have for him and my son. Despite the Claudio's fiasco, it was an almost perfect day - we just missed Paul about a BAZILLION times!

Re: I just had such a nice day =)
LOL I saw your post before you fixed it and I thought you were keeping us in suspense. What great use of your time, it sounds like you had a perfect day, if for no other reason you got some hubby & wife time vs. Mommy & Daddy time. Even though I know you love that and wouldnt trade it, it's nice to have a date or day of having 1-on-1 time. We went to a wedding about 1 month or so ago-75 miles one way in NJ and my SIL who was watching Luke was another 15 miles east so we decided it was best for everyone if we picked him up the next day. It was hard-every song we heard on the radio on the way home, we changed the words to use Luke's name but.....it was nice to sleep past 7am the next morning!
Yuck about the non-deveined shrimp. I would be disgusted too. Oooh the chef must've been a delicate genius oooohh to not be able to handle the truth about the shrimp. I think that's weird that they said no. Customer service in all areas is just going downhill
But I'm glad you didn't let it ruin your day (Yay! More room for ice cream)I'm glad you had a terrific day, it sounds very romantic.

Sounds like a wonderful time!I cannot tell you how much it irks me when shrimp are not properly deveined. I will sit there and pick out every single speck of 'black stuff' before I can eat it. It totally skeeves me out! I cannot believe that they wouldn't take it back - That's just ridiculous!!

Im glas to hear thatyou had sucha good day...except for the dinner!! I DEFINATLY would have spoken to thw manager of the restaruant and made a complaint. There is NO WAY IN HELL that I would have ever stood for service like that. No one will ever tell me that I should eat something that is not cooked or prepared the way I wantes it. You pay too much $$$$ to go out for dinner just to have it ruined!!
IM sorry that you had to experience that!!!

What a terrific day! I love those kinds of 'up for anything' days with no specific plans. That's when the most wonderful memories happen.
Sorry about your shrimp... how gross!

AWE Claud !
and they didnt even comp your meal ?? I should have been there !
Greenport is so nice. We stayed at a B&B there. Very relaxing, and we called my BIL and asked him if he owned the town (the name 'Claudio's' was everywhere!
)Next time you go, they have those schooner boats, they sail out for about 2-3 hours. Its beautiful.
Someone played a violin or something and they passed around wine.
Im glad you had a great time! Mommy and daddies need 'special time'. We had a date last nite too, we went to see Grease at the playhouse in Smithtown, and John wants to buy season tickets to the theatre!
)BIG HUGS MOMMY !!!!!

Sorry to hear about your experience at Claudio's - I've eaten there before and didnt have as bad of a time. But you had a great day anyway. My DH is from Mattituck (his parents still live there) which is also on the North Fork. If youre in the area again, another nice restaurant to try is The Soundview, good seafood - great view of the LI Sound.Welcome New Vendors
