No heat? That's ... what's the term... against labor laws??? Not the one I was going for, but you get the hint. It's not like it's 50 out! It's 30! Do you think they will let you go home if they can't fix it?

I HATE when news stations blow up every little weather story BEFORE it even happens.
News 12 and their 'storm watch 08' with reporters at the salting stations at 730 am and it's not even freaking snowing...
a storm, IMO is 6 or more inches... 1-3 is NOT enough for a storm watch... and certainly not enough to send a reporter to 7-11, when there isn't even a lick of snow on the ground, to ask commuters what they think of the storm.

haha so true! I cant stand it. They act like we've never seen snow before. But people are just as bad for believing it - I passed by waldbaums last night and you would think the end of the world was coming!! Everyones stocking up on bottled water - is an inch of snow going to prevent us from having running water? i just dont get it!

I know I agree. Its dumb when they are out there reporting and theres nothing going on! Dumb
From this morning they are say its more like 3-5 inches (not just a little amount anymore). Plus it will mix with rain/ice later. I hate that.

I told my boss that i was not staying til 5. this kind of weather will add at least an hour on to my commute and I can't be bothered. Sitting in 2 hours of messy traffic is not how i want to spend my friday night.

THANK YOU!!!!
And even 6 inches is not A LOT of snow.
The worst is when they predicted 3 inches of snow and we get nothing and they say, 'Well folks, we lucked out again.'
It was only supposed to be 3 inches anyway! What is 3 inches gonna do?? Shut down the city? Puh-lease.
They are talking about the snow out in Seattle like it's a friggin avalanche. 'Seattle got a record FOUR INCHES.' Well, let's run to the Piggly Wiggly then. Grab all the water you can find and stock up on bread and canned foods. 'And today, they expect ANOTHER INCH.' Start burning your books to stay warm, folks. You're going to be cut off from society soon.
Ugggggh. It's snow. It melts.

OMG Me too! They amke it like everyone is in danger of getting snowed on like its going to kill us. Come on- can we say over reacting a bit???
ETA: Dont worry me about snow unless we are getting like a foot. And it wouldnt be such a big deal if they could teach the people who clean the roads on LI how to do it effectivly. Then it wouldnt even be a huge deal ever unless we got like 3 feet at once.

The only storm watch that was ever worthy of a storm watch was the blizzard of 95 (or 96) when we got like 4 feet of snow. I remember opening the front door and you couldn't see out the snow was so high!!!
That, my friends, is a storm.

exactly! Now I understand it can be bad when it is icey. My parents live in maine and had an actual Ice Storm last week. They were out of power for 12 hours. But you know what, the roads were cleaned in that time and then it was all fine. It wasn't a huge deal. LOL I still remember the first time DH came to visit me in Maine he brought a friend and we planned to go skiing. it was a 1.5 hour drive to the mountain we were going to. i remember the night before he asked if I thought we would still be able to go. It was snowing. Well the next morning we woke up to 2.5 feet of snow and it was still snowing a bit. And he didn't think we would be able to go cus of the roads. Welp we went and the roads were fine cus they consistently clean them there. He was so amazed by it.

We're new yorka's, we exaggerate everrrrrrything.
I understand that people want the news, traffic, weather and want to know how to prepare, and that is fine, but to call a few inches of snow a storm watch is ridiculous.

Just another reason why I am excited to move to New Hampshire. They actually GET snow there - it doesn't always turn to rain - and they know how to deal with it, so it's pretty and not a pain in the arse.
And I will have a remote start on my car when we move so that I can turn the car on before getting in it, and the defroster will take care of the snow on my car so I won't have to scrape it off every morning.
