I know you ladies will make me feel better

So DH and I are TTC, and I had a Preconception Panel done to make sure everything is ok with me. Well the dr. called with the results and it came back that I carry a gene for cystic fibrosis. Now she said they test 23 strands and only one came back abnormal but I am still freaking out. She said that DH should be tested and if he carries the same gene (which would be uncommon), then there is a 1 in 4 chance that it can be passed on. If he doesn't carry the gene then there is no chance. Cheer me up!!!!!! I couldn't sleep last night and I have an uneasy feeling in my stomach

please don't worry about this, I found out I carry the downs gene, and life can't stop there. IF this is in fact the case, and you were to have a baby that was not complelty healthy, it is SO not the end of the world! your a strong person, and whatever you meant to have God will give you, and the power to take care of.. GL and cheer up, at least you can still have a baby right?

First off CONGRATS!!!! I wish you a happy and quick road to TTC!!!

Secondly, relax, get your DH tested and even so they are only statistics.

If you haven't joined LIFamilies yet the girls on teh TTC board are great and so knowledgeable and supportive with this stuff!!!

I will for you and your DH but you WILL BE FINE and have beautiful and happy baby!!!

If you worry before you have anything to worry about, you'll drive yourself crazy - just relax and wait for your DH to get tested. Chances are smaller that you'll both carry the gene than they are that he doesn't.

congrats on TTC. try not to worry. im going through something myself that i just found out about me but im just letting it be for now and letting the doctors do what they have to. just have fun TTC and im sure things will work out!!

I know this is much harder said than done BUT try not to worry until you know there's a need to worry!!

congrats on TTC Christine!!! if it will make you feel more at ease, then maybe your DH should get tested also. not to be a downer, but I had a friend who had cystic fibrosis and died when he was 21.....it's a heartbreaking disease, so I can understand why you'd be feeling worried......but just think of it this way, not everyone goes for testing before TTC and many healthy babies are born despite one of the parents possibly carrying a gene they might not even know they have. I'm paranoid, so I think it would be hard for me to go for testing!! good luck with everything!!! try not to worry too much!

Congrats on TTC, but try not to make yourself worry about it. Right now you dont know the outcome and if he does carry it it of course would make you sad but the chances of your DH carrying it are slim.

try not to worry until you know whether DH does or not

I can understand how hard it is to find out this kind of news. Try not to let it consume you. The one great thing is that you went for the pannel before becomming pregnant so you know your potential risks and can prepare appropriately.
If your DH is a carrier then you have a decision to make. I wish you and your DH much luck. One of my dearest girlfriends died of CF in 1997. As sad as it was, the one thing she is remembered for is acomplishing more in her 15 years of life than most people do in a lifetime. She had a wonderful appreciation for life.

It is VERY rare that you both carry the same gene and if you do even rarer to have a child with cystic fibrosis.
