I live in NC now!

I live in NC now!

Hi Ladies - just sending a hello from my new home in Wilmington North Carolina. It's amazing down here!

Although I will miss family and friends in the northeast (okay, and the food!) I will not miss the pace and the traffic. I know NC is a huge destination for newly married couples - let me know if you have any questions!

Plus - this is five minutes away...

Congrats, it sounds amazing. It is more affordable down there?

Yeay Ryanna! So happy for you. So many great things are happening, can't wait to hear about your first day at school!

DH and I are really considering moving to Atlanta...as much as I'd hate to leave, my whole nutty family is in GA and I want a house - plus you really can't raise kids and be 'anxiety free' in NYC.

Best wishes!c

Re: I live in NC now!

Congratulations!!!! DH and I are considering moving out of NY as well. Its so expensive here and I am having the hardest time finding a teaching job. Our only concern with moving is all of our friends and family are here. How did you decide on NC?

Re: I live in NC now!

Thank You for al of the well wishes! Nice to hear from all of you ladies (dress twins, 'florist' twins, and the like - hope you girlies are all well!)

Yes, it is definitely more affordable, although by the Souths standards, this area is getting 'expensive' (giant Houses in nice neighborhoods for 200K!) becasue it is experiencing a huge population explosion. North CArolina and Arizona are the two fastest growing states in the country - and the boom is still happening - so now is the time to get in!

No pics of the dream house yet, as we are renting for a year while we really scope out the best place to buy a home. I've got to tell you though, moving from a 400 square foot apartment in Brooklyn, to a 1100 sq foot, 2 bed, 2 bath palace is so intense! I really feel like I am on vacation (the pool outside my deck, free fitness room, central air and dishwasher help alot...) The rent for our place is $755 per month. We were paying $1300 in Brooklyn!

Yes, we have seen MANY young couples down here. It's a college town, so there is a young community to begin with, and I think alot of them fall i love with each other, and this area, and they just stay!

It was hard leaving family and friends, and we are totally pioneers (we know NO ONE!) but it feels really neat to relocate our family here. We are waiting 5 or so years for kids, so we think its important to build a solid foundation for a marriage before having them. Fighting about money and working 6 days per week in a tiny crappy apartment was not the way to begin our union!

There is always a trade off - there is nothing like the food and culture of New York City - but I look forward to experiencing it as a visitor.

Sorry to write a book- while I know many people love the Northeast, I truly feel like it is a very unhappy place for so many people because of the pace. A better quality of life is out there if you desire it. It just takes a leap of fith to pack up and go (and there will be PLENTY of people trying to tell you that you are crazy, and anywhere outside of the NYC area is lame. Not true!)

Let me know if anyone has any questions. and I'll keep you all updated on my progress in school - God knows I will need some serious moral support as a 26 year old going back to finish my Batchelors!

Hey Almost Date Twin and now North Carolina Twin! Isn't the rent RIDICULOUS! Do you guys have a car down here? I couldn't believe it when I visited our insurance agent--I'll literally be paying $100 less for TWO cars down here (full coverage) than I did for my ONE car up in NY. CRAZY affordable! Congrats to you guys and happy Southern Pacemaking! lol

Then we make 3!!!

My DH and I moved down here this past Thursday - we also brought my mom and my dog with us... and my BIL and his wife are moving down once they close on their house at the end of the month.

We really love it here so far - beautiful weather (although a little more humid then we'd like), beauitful areas... so much to see and do and things are so cheap!!!

We need to do a GTG down here girls! We're in Morrisville, which is outside of Raleigh... kep it in mind!

Re: I live in NC now!

Congrats and good luck! We are thinking of moving within the next few years ourselves. Probably to New Jersey (near Atlantic City). Dh's brother just got an inexpensive, nice house there, for a much cheaper price.

We feel the same way about NY. We don't want to leave, but we constantly argue about money. We realize we have to move and do what is best for us. It will be hard, but atleast we won't be struggling and we'll have a nice house so that we can start a family.
