We are in the market for a new digital camera. I would love it if you ladies could share your camera recommendations with me and what price range does it fall into. Any special features etc, etc would be nice.

Being far from a camera expert, all I know is what I have and I have the Canon Digital Elph. Depending on what you are looking to use it for, I find it to be great. I just wanted a point and shoot digital that took high res shots that would be good enough for printing, etc. I love the elph since it is so small and can fit in your pocket. Plus it has the video option and lots of different options for zoom, resolution, and other stuff I know nothing about. But it is a great handy little camera to have with you if you are like me and feel the need to take pictures all the time.

We have a Nikon 995- at the time I brought it for Scott it was about $1K, now it is around $600ish. You can get multiple lenses, flashes, filters etc.. .for the camera. You can also ask Stef about her new digital camera. She has a really nice one.
Do you want something that is similar to a 'real' SLR camera, or more of a point-n-click?

I have the Kodak and I love it. The best part about it is that it has a base, that once you take your pictures, put the camera on the base and it will download your pictures and it charges the battery at the same time. I brought the base and camera at Best Buy for $200.

Michelle, what the heck is SLR?? I want something with a little more than point and click since my hubby will be using it as well, but I wanted to get some ideas so we can look at them together then make our decision from there.

We have Fuji Finepix A303 - not difficult to use, but it has a lot of features. Look on Amazon.com - there are reviews of many different cameras.

It really depends on what sort of stuff you want to do with it.
I have two digital Olympus cameras and like them both. Their biggest selling point is that they take regular batteries...so if the battery goes dead, I can just put in a few new ones from the store! Huge plus in my book.
Here is a pretty basic point and shoot. Has all the basic features. Added plus - has a slide over lens cover so you dont have to worry about scratching. I have an older model but its pretty much this:
If you want something more advanced with a higher res image and capability for different sorts of lens, more control over the settings, etc..
I know I can always come to you ladies for help. Stef you are alway so thorrough in your answers. Thanks.

I have th Kodak Easy Share, and it hast 3 pixels, and is pretty much in the price range we were looking for ($300). We got it on christmas and so we're really happy with it.

I have the Olympus below. About $200, not too expensive but takes great pics all around.
I got it for a wedding present from my parents this past October and I LOVE it. Although I almost wish I had a zoom like the one Stef posted. I have dropped that thing twice and it keeps on ticking, THANK GOD! I like that it uses regular batteries but I have to get rechargeable batteries so I don't go through batteries like crazy (since they store the pics and I take little 15 sec movies), the batteries die often. You can also use lithium though.
I would definitely recommend Olympus for the name and I haven't ever heard a bad thing about them.

Definitely recommend getting a zoom. Most cameras (even the expensive ones) only have a 3x optical zoom (digital zoom is a waste so dont even look at that)...but its a huge help when you cant move yourself closer to your subject.
I have an elph APS camera that doesnt have zoom and i never even take it with me b/c Im hooked on zoom :D

I have an Olympus D-520 Zoom. I LOVE it I bought it online for much cheaper than the stores. If you are intested I will find the website.
If you look at the camera you are looking for, or have in mind, they can beat any price.

canon powershot g3. its amazing. expensive though & bulky. won't fit in your purse, thats for sure. very professional camera. fh picked it out after some serious research! crazy zoom & 4 megapixels, i believe.
never thought about the batteries...which is a good point...but I am in the habit of constantly charging the battery...(Its always in the charger - to be ready)
I have 5X zoom...very small...which I like

We've got the Canon Powershot G3 also. It's a great camera! Definitely not a slim stick in your pocket kind of camera but it's excellent!

shamma, I have the Fuji FinePix2600 It has 3x optical zoom (optical a MUST) and a host of other features. Easy to use, and the software is great. Also, the quality of the pics are fabulous I got if for about $250 (from Netmarket.com)
I am toally illeterate camera wise, but my FH is a big camera buff. I wanted a DC for ages and for my birthday he bought me the Pentax 430 RS - here's why he choose it - not necessarily in the order of importance
it weighs under 1 lb it has 4 mega pixels it has 3 X zoom
