I need guidance guys

I need guidance guys

Ok so im sitting here trying to make a crucial decision. I have been working reception at this place for months, busting my *** with a position I hate, because we need the steady income and medical benefits. So I’ve developed migraines and finally. I am supposed to start November 26-1 month after they said I would originally start. I HATE IT. The average age is 70 and they want a secretary from the 50’s…you know cute, typing etc, but I am a teacher at heart for crying out loud-this is just for the meantime. But I HATE IT. Only have kept it do Dh didn’t have the strain of being the sole breadwinner.

But have been thinking, maybe this isn’t the job for me and praying for guidance from God. I keep making mistakes at work because they’re awful people and make me nervous at this point. But again, we need the money. Yet today, our doorman asked me to give him my resume. I was curious why but he said we couldn’t talk about it at the moment and he did the “nod” thing and I said inwardly..CRAP. He knows something I don’t-and when I saw him when I came back from lunch, he muttered that the company’s full of BS…so I am thinking I won’t have a job soon.

That’s one sign I think to start rethinking this career choice.

Then I signed online and what does it say on yahoo? “Four signs its time to leave your company.” I didn’t even read it but I am taking it as a sign…I am Hispanic lol we believe in signs. It may be coincidence but I am thinking I’ll keep this job for now, and start looking for other positions-I am going to apply to be a paraprofessional again with NY department of ED-turned it down before because was in the Bronx and I live in NJ, but I am going to try one more time. Maybe they will still accept me-would mean a pay cut for awhile but I’d be working with kids which is what I want to do, not with crotchety old men who ogle my @ss daily.

I guess what scares me the most is making ends meet because I know DH hates his job and does it to support us, and we just got out of debt…Its really frightening to me… what do you ladies think? Should I just stick this place out and make the most of it, or deal with it while looking for something else?

If you can afford to change jobs to something you love more, start looking and do it. Life is too short to be miserable.

Clearly, this is all within reason. I wouldn't quit before finding a new job and I wouldn't take a new job if it didn't have the benefits you need and didn't pay enough money... but other than that, get out of there. You clearly hate it, so make a change for the better.

You have the right to pursue happiness in life. Go get it.

I agree-wouldnt leave before I found soemthing but its emotional abuse. Like my sueprvisor today-perfct example-likes me to go to lunch at exactly 12pm so she can go at exctly 1pm. But she came up at 10 after 12 today. I run out and come back 1:07 on the dot. She telsl em in her bitchy, condescending way 'we are going to have to do something about this lunch, because now I am going late and still have to get the bos''s lunch' blah blah. usually I take it but today i said, 'HOLD UP. YOU came out here at 10 after. You saw me call my husband when i left.' Showed ehr the time stamp on the phone and she shut up but not even an apology. Just waltzed off with a huff....this is the **** that happens to me daily... like NOTHING I do is ever right and condescending... If I don't open the door all the way and it's a half inch closed, I get reamed...I am just tired. I put up with a lot because my belief is u dotn have to love your job-just have to work and try and do well, BUT it shouldnt cause u harm either. eventually the soul gets tired.

You should be so proud of yourself you got out of debt and had a wedding in the same year. Most people go into debt with their wedding

If you were cold you would get a sweater if you were uncomfortable where you were sitting you would move right so if you hate your job get out fast. A job that is pleasant makes life so much better. You spend most of your time in work so you might as well enjoy it!! By enjoy I don't mean wish the weekend to be over so you can go back but have a pleasant atmosphere to go into that doesn't cause you to feel miserable.

You should definitely apply for that job with the DOE but don't stop there. There are other jobs you could apply for too that would allow you to work with children. You may find something else and not need to take a pay cut. Also with a teaching job you may be able to pick up teaching in summer school or camp over the summer for extra money.

Good Luck and start looking today not tomorrow!! Today is a great day to get better

My name is Catherine and I'm motivational speaker I've been the basement for 6 hours drinking coffee and eating crumb cake I live in a van down by the river.

Ugg... sounds like a nightmare there! I have been there too. Hang in there!

Definitely start looking around for something else. I know it is hard to look around while you are working somewhere and are on the clock, but it is always good to have something or some sort of plan lined up. Also, being employed will make you look more attractive to the people who interview you.

I know it is tough - it sounds pretty bad there - hang in there. Maybe even start applying to schools for what you really want to do. I know there are great and inexpensive state programs out there for just about everything!

Jenn, you should definitely start looking for a new position. Today. You never know unless you try and I believe in signs too - you may find the job of your dreams this time! Go for it!

Im in the SAME situation.. I HATE my company [love the field] but hate THIS place.
I'm holding out utnil I can find something new.. I know its hard to make ends meet and just leaving here would be selfish on my part.. so Im keeping my eyes open and as soon as something comes my way, I'm OUT!

But DEFINATELY start looking ASAP! That resume sh!t sounded shady

I would agree that all the signs are pointing to find a new job. I really believe you should be happy since most of your time is spent at work. Start looking now so you can take the time to find something that you WANT to do and that will pay you well.

You should def. start looking for a new job, I too beleivein signs. All signs point to GET A NEW JOB!!!!! Struggling to commute everyday for a year to get your foot in the door of a carrer you really want is nothing. Do it now! I wish there were certain things I had done before I had DD, cause now I feel guilty if I do something that takes time away from her.

This is the time in your life to do things like this. It can't hurt to out your resume out there and see what happens! Good Luck, let us know how it goes!

Re: I need guidance guys

it definitely doesn't hurt to send out your resume to tons of places, go on interviews during lunch... hoping to land a job closer to what you want, with similar income / benefits to what you have now.

I bet you COULD find something that way, while sticking out at the current s#!thole

good luck
