We are going on a cruise in July!! i know im gonig to forget to do it if i dont do it soon! anybody do this already?? do i go to the post office??

you can go to most post offices! fill out the paper work and they send it away and you will get a new one!

I did this already. You do not have to go to the post office. You do have to get new passport pics taken. Then you mail the form, your pics, your ORIGINAL marriage license and a check in. They'll mail you back a new passport.
If you go through the post office, be sure to call them first. My parents went to renew theirs thinking they could just walk right in and do it but they made them make an appointment and come back a different day. I'm sure not all post office's are like that but better to be sure. I would just go through the mail, it's probably easier.

Jess we are going on a cruise in 2 wks and I never changed mine so I booked in my maiden name. If you procrastinate, you can always do that!

I just mailed mine in 3 weeks ago. They're on a 4-6 week return time. I'll let you know when I get mine back if you want.
You have to get new photos done.
If your passport is less than 1 year old, it's much less. Otherwise, you're basically just renewing your passport. You have to mail them an original of your marriage certificate along with the new photos and a specific form. They have the forms at the post office.
To my knowledge, you can't change your name by going in person. But that might just be because of where I live? I'm not sure. On the official website it says you have to mail everything in.
It wasn't difficult -- just get a copy of the form, get your photos, a copy of your license, and mail it in. Zip, zap, done.
We're hoping to go to Ireland in April. I haven't booked yet, though because prices are still way too high.
