I need your help

My Boss's mother passed away and the funeral was in Greece. None of us obviously could go and we couldnt send flowers but we did take up a collection for him.
We collected $200. i know he wont want to accept the money. i found where you can plant trees in memory of someone and that is $95 for 1 acre of trees. I still have around $100 left. What can we do with the rest? I am not sure about any charities that he gives to so I dont want to go that route. Someone told me not to do a fruit basket because Greek people always send them and he probably will have a whole bunch already (Greek girls, is that true?)
He will be coming back to NY today and I want to send something for this weekend.

Coming from someone who's apartment currently has 8 fruit baskets you are totally right to not want to send a fruit basket. While the thought behind one is very kind and supportive (I don't mean to sound ungrateful) it is just so standard and it is actually depressing to walk out of the bedroom everyday and see them staring back at us.

DH's father requested St. Jude's Children's Research Hosp so I think this is a great idea! DH's mom is an endowed chair RN at Columbia and always supports St. Jude's for the research conducted there.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the trees idea - what a beautiful tribute!

and the planting a tree is a WONDERFUL idea.

eta- question- when you plant a tree do they supply a plaque that says 'in memory of'? because if they don't, what about having one made?

I was going to say the same thing. The last thing they are going to want to do is cook or do anything this weekend.
