I really must vent- BIL related- w/pic for your pleasure
My BIL has NO boundaries. We are currently renting the basement apartment from my ILs ..nuff said..
However, when my *lovely* BIL comes home from college- don't give him too much leeway, hes 23; he basically LIVES downstairs with us. From the minute I wake up till the minute I go to bed, he is here.. relaxing on our couch, feet all over the place, watching tv.. sometimes using our comp to look at p0rn.. Thats how our old comp died... fulllllllll of viruses
When he isn't in the apartment and decides to come downstairs, he just throws the door open and comes down.. no knock, no nothing.. This irritates me to no end..
he also has taken to buying cases of beer and drinking in our apartment until all hours of the morning. He will then leave the empties around- sometimes on the counter- for me to clean up..
May I kill him? Or is that against the law somewhere? I can't tell you how many fights I have gotten in with Vin because of this. He says 'thats just the way Joe is.. ' ummmmmm no, unacceptable!!

Oh He!! No I would have some words with BIL myself How have you delt with it this long? You must have the patience of a saint I would have been on channel 12 news for killing him especially the porn !!! Your Inlaws dont say anything to him like give you guys some privacy?

nope.. DH has had a convo with him about 'us' living down here now.. Back when he was in HS he had a bedroom down here, along with Vin.. ILs began renovating the basement & we ended up here..
We've been here for almost 2 years and it hasnt changed.. I am just sitting here with this nasty puss on... Vin actually asked me 'Babe, whats wrong??' ummmmmmmm if you cant tell by now that EVERY time joe steps foot around me I am miserable, then you are a ffucking moron! this is what i deal with... please hold for a picture...

OMG you should not have to stand for that! I'd lose my mind in that situation. Maybe when he comes down one day, just tell him you are really busy & can't have distractions. I don't know, it's a sticky situation because he's family so you don't want to start a huge argument. Maybe say something to your MIL about it... she should talk to him. Do you have a lock on the basement door? If not you need to get one... sounds like that may be the only way he'll get the hint.

THIS is what I deal with.. Unfortunately I can not put a lock on the door because my ILs have their washer/dryer down here.. My MIL is getting to me too because she knocks 2xs then literally runs down the stairs..
Its bad because today I got out of the shower in a robe & came out into the LR to get clothes from the laundry basket, and who's watching tv on the couch?? My BIL
I hate it.. I really hope this house offer goes through..
this is reallllllllllllllly going to put a strain on my relationship with DH & ILs.. this is just nonsense.. I just dealt with this last weekend too.. fuucking kill me

it sounds like your BIL thinks its still his apartment ... or that you don't mind living in a frat house
you are a much better woman than i am, i would not keep my mouth shut. hubby would be getting a lot more than a sour look on my face when bil was over ... drinking, looking at p0rn, sleeping on my couch. he'd be hearing it until his ears were bleeding

Are you guys paying rent? Cause if so...tell the moocher to kick in some $$$$! There is noooooo way i could live like that...even with the ILs....many hugs & prayers for sanity heading your way!!!

Wow talk about frustrating!!!!!!! My MIL had a similar experience. She and FIL lived in an apartment in one of the buildings that DH's grandparents owned when my ILs were first married. Every couple of days DH's grandfather would show up at my ILs apartment unlock the door with a key and just walk in and hang out with MIL while FIL was at work. My MIL was always frustrated by it but never said anything about it. One day DH's grandfather walked in while MIL was nursing DH. She didn't get up to put her shirt back on, she just stared at him and he stared at her. MIL said that was the last time DH's grandfather ever came in again unannounced. I am not saying that you should do something that drastic, but is there anything you could do 'unintentionally' that might make them a little uncomfortable and at least a little more cautious?

I'd be really irritated if I was in your situation. Especially with him walking right into your apartment whenever he wants without even knocking!!! Doesn't it occur to him that you might need privacy once in a while? I don't understand why he spends all day and night downstairs - does he have his own room in the house? Did the basement used to be his? For some reason it seems as if he feels entitled to do whatever he wants in that area whenever he wants. It really seems like he should realize that it is not acceptable to constantly be in your living area. But even if at his age (which really isn't that young) he doesn't get it, then your DH's parents should most definitely realize that there needs to be more boundaries when it comes to your apartment with your DH. Here's to your BIL's spring break being over soon!

dude you should toooooottally bring your scantily clad aunt over to your place and have her trot around in her skivvies...that or something that'll reeeeeeeally creep him out and realize that he CAN'T just barge right in anymore. orrr you could always be lovin Vin and be 'caught' in the middle of the act...would BIL be one to be embarrassed?
