I stayed home because I was sick and now my fish had babies!
I just walked over to the tank to feed my betta and two platty fish and I noticed one gave birth. I had to dump a flower pot out (glass fish bowl) get water in it, dechlorinate it then rush over with a net to scoop out the babies before nasty betta Quint ate them. He ate a few but I got six out so far. WHY does stuff like this always happen to me when I am sick!

Aww, glad you saved some of them. Feel better! My DH is home sick today too...stomach virus! I pray I don't get it!

I just purchased the fish Saturday. I had Quint who is a male betta, three neons who were eaten by Quint that night and two Platty fish. The one platty fish (named Burberry) was fatter then the other one but I just figured she was a big eater. Well guess not!

Gigi, Ive had stomach problem for like 7 days now. Ive been hearing so much about stomach viruses this past week!

Aww, feel better! He said he felt fine during the night and all of a sudden this morning he was so sick. I had a little pain in my stomach during the night but thought maybe it's because I've been taking a lot of Advil. I made laugh this morning because I said 'I'm doomed, I'm going to end up with it!'. It has been going around.

Bettas can live in a community tank as long as they are put with fish they get along with its iffy though. I have learned that now - he still gets made at the platies and flares up at them and he did eat the neons. I would say its best not to mix them some betta males are fine with other fish mine is pretty evil.
Well if they survive another week then I may have to buy another tank and transfer them so they grow larger. I doubt I would want all of them so I will probably give them to the fish store for free or exchange them for other fish.

That's right, I forgot there are certain fish they can be with. My DH knows...obviously, I don't. Our Betta was all right with guppies.

That is great! We just had the same thing happen to us! We were about to go out and buy new fish and noticed there were 8 little guys swimming around! So far they are all still there and growing!!!

Jenn, funny story for you - I had a betta years ago in his own little fish bowl and one year for Xmas my DH - FH at the time - got me a huge tank and a ton of other fish. He had no idea that the betta had to be alone so he put my betta in with the rest. And you know what happened? The other fish ATE THE BETTA! They were chewing up his fins like they were spaghetti. He was fine - I just removed him and his fins grew back - but his beautiful blue and green fins were all stragly and cut up. Poor Hemingway!!!

OMG that is soo freaking funny. I love the name ah great person. It all depends on the fish! He is just nasty today maybe because I was around wrecking the entire tank with my damn net finding babies. Oh well!

My friend moved to Japan and gave me my first betta (it was hers and she needed someone to take care of it) - and it was named mr. miagi
