I think we bought a house!!!!!

We went to an open house, made a bid, got the bid accepted, had the inspection, filled out the mortgage papers, and called the lawyer!

Wow - if all goes through, we'll close in November! I'm still in shock ... but a 'happy gonna be broke for a long while shock'! I'm afraid that something is going to happen - but I am so excited as well.

The house is in Mineola ... wanted to stay near the folks, who are in NHP!

Congrats! I am so jealous...we have been searching for over a month, and we made a bid on one house that never got accepted. Actually, we pulled our offer b/c they were playing games with us. I want a home so badly!!!!

We just looked at some homes in Albertson over the weekend, I had never heard of it before but it's between Roslyn & Mineola.

Does anyone know anything about Wantagh? School District #5 to be exact.

That is so awesome! When we had found our home, we were only going to see it because we wanted to keep a good relationship going with this real estate agent because she was finding some real nice homes for us .. little did we know it would turn out to be our home! It becomes such a dizzing flurry of excitement once the offer is accepted, and I totally know the feeling of being afraid that something is going to happen .. I was that way right up until the last piece of paper was signed and we had the keys!

Elizabeth - we love Albertson, Rosyln and Williston Park - but if we bought in those areas, we wanted Herricks school district and with this market - those houses run way over $400 and you need to do work. Instead of buying Albertson with Mineola schools, we decided Mineola would be best - for train purposes! And that later in life, if we can afford more - we'll try to buy in those areas!

We were looking in NHP - and that's way over priced!

Teri, the house is on the North side of Jericho - about 3 blocks from NHP/Herricks. A really nice part of Mineola - great block and great potential on the house. There really isn't much in Mineola, and yes, the Park section is beautiful - we looked there too, but those houses are bumped up more in price because it's considered the 'park section'! I actually like the north side of Jericho better but I do love the park section too! We saw a house there a week or two ago - beautiful and big (but no property) - they were asking $469! Wow!

North of Jericho is very nice too - congrats again. I love those houses right off Mineola Blvd - so cute! FH and I are living in an apt now in Mineola, and occasionallly walk past those two sections.

$469K is A LOT! Especially with the size of the house and property. I grew up on the North Shore of LI but don't think we'll ever make it back there

Sara, we've been looking for maybe 2 months -

I would go on-line at each realtors web-site and look for open houses and plan to go before it's in the paper! We didn't expect to buy so soon, and we didn't think we'd get this house - but I guess it was meant to be - well 'hopefully meant to be' - since we didn't close yet!

We are living with my parents right now - they have an apartment in there house-and we were in no rush. But now my dad's company is being sold and he won't have a job come November and then we found this house. So, I'm thinking that we'll move and then they can rent that apartment, which will help them out a bit.

It's all related - and I'm thinking that this may be a reason why we found a house so soon.

Teri, the north side of Jericho is really nice but so is the south side! I do like the houses on Mineola Blvd - they are gorgeous!

Don't give up on the North shore yet - I do think the prices are stabilizing a bit but the asking prices are high. Are you focusing primarily in Mineola. What is your price range?
