I want to know everything...

Original post by Claud2001

...that you have ever heard, said or seen about Amway...I am doing some research on multi-level marketing companies, and this company seems to have been around the longest.

Re: I want to know everything...

My sister wanted me to post this regarding MeLaLuca :

Melaleuca is not MLM though (Multilevel)

It's simple. We don't sell products. We just refer new customers.
if you want your home to be non-toxic and safe and buy better products at cheaper prices, then you join their online/catalog club (like Cosctco) and YOU shop for yourself on your own time..

Then we get a % whenever you buy (if we referred u to the company).

Simple.
It's $29 to get started and it's 100% refundable.
All they ask is that you become a loyal customer, buying about $40/month of their products.
They have over 300 products which include things we buy ANYWAY, so it's not NEW money.
We're just switching stores........ and getting paid to refer others.

Anna - that still sounds shady to me. Sorry - JMO. Even the language the use to explain it is shady. We refer customers....to me, that sounds the same as recruiting members, which is EXACTLY the same way Amway works - they are just tricking you w/words.

Anything that requires YOU to pay out fee to 'join' something in order to make $$$ is a scam - that was the bottom line moral of the story for that Oprah show.

Think of it this way - if you were applying for a legititmate job, would the prospective employer say to you - 'Okay, you're the right person for this job. Now, in order for you to join our company and make a salary, you have to pay me X amount of money.' With REAL jobs that pay REAL income, that would NEVER happen.

So, I have to ask your sister - who is pocketing the $29 that she sends to 'join' MeLaLuca and why would she want to be forced to buy $40/month worth of nameless products? Why be obligated for spending so much money, when you might not want or need anything some months.

Also, just want to say - I am NOT picking on your sister - just playing devil's advocate b/c right now, I do not trust ANY of these scams. Pls. tell your sister not to get involved.

Why would anyone agree to spend $40/month on anything? Even if I loved a companies products, I wouldnt agree to a monthly spend...what if I didnt need anything that month?

Re: I want to know everything...

anna's post almost sounds like an amway ad!! (no offense to your sister, Anna)

that's exactly what amway does - you buy your 'every-day' items - soap, tires, clothes, etc. from them and the person who recruited you gets a % of what you spend and on up the pyramid. there's one catch - in order to pay so many levels of 'commissions' (and i use that word loosely), the prices have to be jacked up. even if you could successfully recruit someone to buy through these businesses, who is going to stick with it?

If you didn't you would still have to pay the money.

One of the reason I prefer Avon over MaryKay is that MK tend to push the philospohy of getting more people under you selling, and you must buy the products ahead of time, in anticipation of someone buying.

I do not like these muti-level scams

Re: I want to know everything...

Claud- I hear the devils advocate speech from John every day on this Im not involved in it, so no need to talk me out of it

Alot of things that are 'get rich quick' seem shady, period. I didnt even want to get involved in real estate sales (totally off topic, lol) because of the moeny i'd have to dish out, and not be promised a paycheck till 'I produce'... I hate jobs like that.
My brother is in the 'stock-broker' field and he hears it all the time 'got a mercedes in the driveway and a jag in the garage' and my brother is SOOO NOOTTTT this type of person, but this playing the market gets his juices flowing.
And he is always paying for things... which makes NO SENSE to me..

Look at all these companies, that pay an honest salary for an honest days work, pay for classes, and so many other perks, and then there are these SCAM artist companies, that get these honest guys like my brother into this 'get rich quick' stuff They use ANY motivational technique, ANY yep... and JUST to get these guys to work 25 hours a day, and dream.....
YEs, he makes some GREAT deals, but its not a predictable thing !

OK, did i babble enough ???

Anna - not trying to talk YOU out of it...just your sister!

And, please tell her - MeLaLuca is a multi-level marketing scam. There is plenty written about them on many watchdog sites, like MLMWatchdog.com.

Claud, this article is one of the best I have seen on Amway and it's 'ways'....what happened to my friend is basically spelled out here....

http://www.cocs.com/jhoagland/amcult.html

The part about 'lovebombing', phobias about leaving, and separating from friends and family really hit home...just weird!!
