Ideas for housewarming gift
My MOH and her hubby just moved into a new house. I am trying to think of a really nice housewarming gift for them. Any ideas? She told me someone gave them a Home Depot gift card which is a great idea. I could give her another but I would like to give something different. Please help!!

A plant is always nice. If they like wine a selection of wine or a wine rack. I think a clock is really nice to give as well.

Do you know if they plan to do some landscaping and yardwork? You could give them a certificate for a nearby garden center. Or, if they have a lot of work to do on the house, give them a 'painting' or 'weeding' certificate - promising them a full day of your labor helping them work on the house, complete with a cold-cut platter or BBQ fixin's to chow down on. Or... if they have a large enough yard - a volly ball or badmitton set, croquet set, horse shoes...

Kathi - not soon enough!
It seems like the day will never come. The contract says on or about Feb. 28 and the homeowner is trying to find an apartment for a March 1 move-in date. Originally she wanted to buy another place, but time is running out and she decided to rent for now and find a house later. She also has to find a place in the same school district for her 13-year old son. I`m worried that she will not find something she deems suitible and will opt to postpone for her allowed 30 days and will close in late March, moving in April! We also found out that their lawyer was dragging his feet in filing the paperwork for an updated CO to cover their renovations (something we insisted on) and so now they have hired an expediter to move that along (or so I`m told) The thing that really is frustrating is that they accepted our offer with a Feb. 18 date, and were OK with the BEFORE Feb. 23 that we had in the contract when verbally discussed, then they sent the contract back with our agreements crossed out, and changed to on or about Feb. 28 and we were stuck with accepting it unless we wanted to walk away from the deal. So... now instead of being able to definately move in Feb, I have to pay rent on my old place for March, and possibly even April if she pushes the closing till the end of March, and I`ll have to give our landlord notice by March 1st. It`s not a problem to keep delaying him, as long as he gets 30 days, it`s just that we want this finished!!! If she pushes us right to the end of the Feb. I`m tempted to tell them we can`t close until the middle of March just so that we won`t have to pay a full month`s interest, and so they can pay a few weeks more taxes. We`ve already had to rent a storage locker to put things in here. (storing all our furniture is too expensive - the movers charge about $3500 for move-in/move-out fees PLUS $35 a day - otherwise we could move out of the MA apartment but its cheaper to keep our furniture there) AND I only have the corporate apartment till early Feb. so I`ll be moving in with hubby`s grandmother in Glendale and doing the long commute out to Suffolk every day for a while... I just wish it was over!!!

Do you know what they need?
There`s always something everyone can use when moving into a house. What kind of price range were you looking at? Some more expensive gifts would include a gas BBQ or a lawn mower. Gardening tools can be useful, if you think they`d like to garden. Hedge trimmers, shovels, snow shovels, garden hoses with nozzles, rakes, etc. will all come in handy. Maybe some seed packets for flowers to be planted in the coming months as spring arrives. A welcome mat for their front door. A bird feeder. Windchimes. You might even want to consider buying them a tree. When we first moved into our house, I wanted to plant a tree, so we could see it grow as the years past. But, we never did. Now, I want to plant a tree to represent the years we`ve been married. The months are quickly starting to tick away, and I`d like to get one in this spring .. our first spring as husband and wife. If you go with this idea .. just keep in mind the type of property they have. We don`t really have the space for a giant tree (weeping willow) .. so I`d like to stick with a tree that doesn`t get too big, like a dogwood or something.

Alot of good ideas thanks. I guess they need all the stuff that you definitely don`t have when you`re in an apartment and now move into a home. Quite a few things sound good like the gas grill or something but if I don`t know which one they want, I`d rather not get it. She`s one of my closest friends but we never discussed grill choices LOL The suggestions definitely got the creative thoughts flowing though...Welcome New Vendors
