If you have a friend that is a cop....(car accident question)

& you have someones drivers license plate # can they find out the drivers name?

Here's the scoop......as if DH & I didn't total one car in the torrential downpour the other day and had to buy a new one....someone hit my car in the parking lot of home depot on sat. while DH was driving it....he was kind of stupid and didn't file a police report (DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED!!!) SO now.....surprise, surprise we can't get in touch with this guy....and like I told DH I said he probably gave a fake #....so now he's down at the police station filing a report (which is going to do no good!) but if I have plate # can I find out his name & number myself?????

IM GONNA SCREAM......$1000 worth of damage....I could cry!

Not necessarily the driver, but they can find out who it's registered to.

yep - you can find out who its registered to, their address, and phone number. If you have trouble, I can alwasy try to ask my FIL -- he's retired NYPD. and he'd probably be able to get a hold of the info for you.

Are there any free reverse look up websites....everyone I've come across I have to pay to see his name............

I know if you have the plate (and its correct) they should be able to search the system and find out who the car is registered to etc. I dont know if you can do it yourself online. That is one of those DMV legal thingies that you dont really want online

Yes, by the plate number you can get that info, you just cant find out exactly who was driving that vehicle, you have a specific amount of time to file a claim once your car is hit for it to be a valid claim, Im not sure on the time frame, You should find out as soon as he gets back from the police dept.

absolutely! I'm not married to a cop but I know for a fact that they can find out whose name the car is registered under by the license plate. That is who is responsible for hitting your car!
