If you live on long island, can you just mail in your request to change your name to social security?
Or do you have to physically go there?

you cannot you have to go there in person, I even called the main SS # off the website to find this out.
Print your forms and fill them out before you go off SS website, it makes it much easier, and they told me thurs and fridays after 1pm are the best time to go since its the slowest.

a girl I know did it over the internet, printed and mailed it away and she lives in suffolk

I specifically asked about that becuase it provides a mailing address, they said it will not be processed if your address is in Suffolk, unless you provide paperwork proving you are disable.. but who knows!!!
I would hate to send your SS card in anyway and not really have a way to track if its being processed

I just went to the Patchogue office this morning (10:00) Filled out app ahead of time, and literally waited about 10 minutes. You need your original marriage license and SS card

I went to the one in Long Beach when they first opened at 9am and was in and out in 10 minutes!!!
