and they just refused to give you your money back, how far would you go?

I think it depends on how dissatisfied I was. If they were awful and completely broke their contract, I would consider going as far as court.

It depends on what it was/how bad it was.
In YOUR situation you already know my answer - COURT all the way!!! If ONLY to teach them a lesson that they can not treat people this way! They need to stand up and take responsibility for their actions and mistakes!

It really depends on the vendor and what happened.

Re: If you were dissatisfied with a vendor... (POLL)
It all depends. We were unhappy with a particular vendor, so two days after the wedding, we went to their office to speak with them about it. They offered us a small refund that was, in our opinoin, unacceptable. So, we followed it up with a letter to the president of the company and eventually got about 50% of our money back.

I am in the middle of something right now actually.....
I am going to pursue it as far as I can. I dont have the time and energy for court though. So I guess it could have been worse.

We were unhappy with one vendor, we spoke to them about it the next day, they were completely rude and unapologetic. We just dropped it and moved on. We still had a fabulous day.

Re: If you were dissatisfied with a vendor... (POLL)
depends what it was.
I had one vendor who behaved extremely inappropriately before our wedding. We sent a certified letter to cancel our contract and demanded a refund of our deposit. We were ignored. I mentioned it to my hall because the vendor was on their recommended list and my hall gave me a credit on the full amount of the deposit. They also removed the vendor from their recommended list.
Had my hall not stepped up to the plate, I would have taken it all the way to court.
Now, here are the issues that I did not pursue:
My local florist did a horrible job. He overcharged me (because he promised better items than what he provided). I did not pursue it because I didn't want to be bothered.
My limo company refused to listen to my directions, got lost, and charged overtime. They refused to leave my hall, so I have them the money to get them to go away. But, I didn't give them anything additional for a tip. Later, I saw that the driver was posing and smiling in the background of my photojournalistic pics where my brother is helping my grandmother out of the car. It's a film print, so I can't fix it. That made me FURIOUS, but I still didn't pursue it.
There were a few other items that one of my vendors forgot to give me, and I hounded him until I got them. It took a few months. I'm not sure what I would have done if he didn't come through. I was getting more and more angry as the time went by, and I'm sure he noticed it in the tone of my emails.
I think the reason we didn't pursue the vendor issues was because we had too much family drama. THAT'S what we really spent a lot of time on after the wedding. And, it still isn't resolved.
eta: just read your story. Yes, I would be going to court!!!

Depends. I always give people the benefit of the doubt. So, at first, I'd go the 'nice' route. Call them. Set up an appointment. Write a letter. If the issue wasn't resolved through any of these means and I had given them a LOT of money I MIGHT pursue court. I'm not one for frivolous lawsuits in general, but if I was really lied to, taken for a ride, or lead to believe 1 thing and received something completely different, that could be lawsuit worthy.

I would probably try and seek some sort of retribution. Thankfully, we had no problems with anyone.
However, my neighbor recently got married and had a terrible experience with the florist. My parents, who attended the wedding, actually did say things turned out to be a nightmare. Wrong flowers, wrong colors--set up in wrong cocktail hour room. This bride is suing the florist. She hasn't been able to move on and can't even talk about her day without crying. Other things went sour, but the flowers were her main issue. If suing makes her feel better, I completely say go for it.
I read about your issue with the dress shop and I am so very sorry; you are totally justified in your actions and to be really upset. My BM's gown fell apart between church and reception and thank God my grandmother was around to sew her back in....

well....what does the contract say (not that it says much)
it depends on what needed to perform and when.
most here know about my problem and i didnt have time nor enegry for it so i left it alone (i lost money, a good amount to make you scream) then again, loseing that money was made up on the day of so in my mind...i just pretend that vendor never happened

I had 1 issue- my band was completly different than it was supposed to be, so I followed up & the band leader freaked out & got all defences, so I knew I wasn't ever going to get an actual answer, so I put it behind me. I juset wanted him to know that I knew.
The substitute band was excellent, so I wans't going to try & get any money back.

bumping this for the new newlyweds.
I read quite a few recent reviews of horrid vendor behavior, so there may be more experiences out there...

I'm a paralegal, it wouldn't be too much effort for me to start an action. How dissatisfied were you? Did it ruin your memory of the wedding or is something that you can move on from?

As with most people -- I really think it depends on what went wrong.
My cake wasn't really what I ordered, it tasted great though and and really didn't care about it. I never followed up.

Re: If you were dissatisfied with a vendor... (POLL)
We've already filed a claim in small claims court to be reimbursed. Vendor didnt provide what was presented (by them), agreed upon and in contract. They were called the day after the wedding and they asked to get back to us. Weeks later, still no response to us despite our knowing for a fact they contacted our hall to protect their relationship with the hall.
I believe what is right is right (and it only cost $20 to file the claim).

Re: If you were dissatisfied with a vendor... (POLL)
Im completely unsatisifed with a vendor - and my buttons are being pushed more and more.
Im looking into taking further action - but right now im waiting to see if they return my call which seems to take them forever!
