If your maiden name is now your middle name...

...how did you do it? If SS did it for you, what office did you go to?

I went to SS yesterday and they said they wouldn't do it. I took the forms back and told them that I'd go back after my new passport comes in and try again then, using the passport as proof of my new name.

That's SO weird!!!! I not only kept my maiden name as a middle name, I kept my original middle name so that I have TWO middle names!!!!!!!

I went to the office in Garden City - in and out in like 30 minutes, tops.

I went to an office local here in NJ....no questions, no problems....was in/out in about 30 minutes. Took my new SS info to DMV and did the same exact thing.

I would suggest, going back another day/time. From what I understand....legally you can't just switch names...but most people don't give you a problem...once its done at SS, you can do it anywhere else. Maybe you just got a clerk who is a stickler for rules.

I did the same thing and didn't have any problems. I went to the SS office in Riverhead.

I also moved my maiden name to my middle name and had no problems at all. I don't remember where I went though, but I know it was in an office building that was behind another building and we were in and out in 10 minutes - literally.

Maybe on Commack Rd? Wish I could remember.

I did it at the SS Office in Flushing. In and Out in less than an hour.
