I'm a newlywed!!

I just got married on saturday by a JOP. My HUSBAND left for afghanistan on wednesday so we wanted to be legally married before he left.

we are going to have a BIG wedding next summer, but we got married early just to be safe!

could you help me make a list of all the different things to do to change your name over? dmv, ss card, bank accounts etc...

i want it all done for when he comes home!!!

Congrats!!!

Regarding the name change: You can start as soon as you get a copy of your marriage certificate.

I started at SS because most things are tied to your SS#. Then just carry your marriage certificate around with as you go from place to place to change your name.

Warning: when I went to DMV they would not let me change my name unless I presented my new SS card as well as my marriage certificate.

Best of luck and here are some for your DH's safe return.

That is strange about the DMV I was able to change my name with just my marriage certificate. Just remember when change you name don't forget
car insurance
registration
banks
retirement plans
passport
credit cards- a lot of them you can call up on the phone

And most important the beauty salon I tried to make an opponent and the lady said I'm sorry she is not taking new clients at this time.

CONGRATS!!!!!!!
Your DH is in my prayers and thoughts for a safe and fast return!
My friends just got sworn into the Army today then boot camp and then the MiddleEast.

As far as changing your name I'm doing that now too, I was afraid of the DMV without my new SS card. I'll let you know I'm going there after work today.

Congrats!!!! Welcome to the NW board!!!!!!!!

Your DH will be in my thoughts and prayers for a safe return home!!

As for changing your name, I think you've got a good start going. Just go through your bills, do you have any loans that need to be changed over? Also, your insurance policies.

Re: I'm a newlywed!!

Congrats!!!

I just finished changing my name on everything today! Here was my list:

-SS office
-Human resources for payroll and benefits
-Bank account & order new debit card/checks
-Credit cards
-Insurance (home, car, life, etc)
-Retirement plan, if you have one
-Work email and phone accounts
-Work ID
-Cell phone
-Driver's Licence and car registration

Whew! When I went to the DMV, they just asked for the copy of my marriage licence, not my SS card. But I also live in CT, so maybe it's different depending on which office you visit.

Something you may want to consider is if DH has a car, add him to your insurance and see if you can get a two car discount! When I added my DH, our combined rate was less than I was paying for just me!

Good luck, and congrats again! I will also be sending you that DH returns quickly and safely.
