I'm in a rut

I'm in a rut

I don't really know what it is. I'm slipping. I look terrible. I haven't blown out my hair in over a week. I've been making mistakes at work. I am sleeping 9+ hours a night. I am cranky as hell. I have no desire for sex. I'm just.... blah. I feel very blah.

What can I do this weekend to perk myself up? I'm in rough shape. Mostly I need to get my focus back for work. But I'd like a little happiness. Any thoughts?

Day at the spa? Day at the beach just relaxing?

Last but not least, shopping will always do the trick!

for your personal life, i agree with the mani/pedi/blow out suggestion!

for your work life, sometimes i write goals on a piece of paper and try to meet them each day.

'Today I will complete five things that I need to do at work'

then at the end of the day i make sure that I completed my goals - it makes it more manageable that way!

i also do positive affirmations but that is a whole entire nerdy subject!

Definitely a day at the spa and definitely get a MASSAGE to relax and re-focus.

I sometimes take time for myself and sit outside and read a book.

Wow I have a rut twin!!! I get this way occasionally too, C, and if you look at all you've had going on the last 2 months, no WONDER you feel a bit drained. I hate when I lose work 'focus' I find it very disturbing. Best cure for me is always to get out on time (or a bit early!!!) and COMPLETELY SWITCH OFF from work for the weekend - no checking your emails, no thinking about next week's meetings, I don't even read the business pages when i get like this... it really helps!!!

And why not go get your hair done tomorrow, and take an hour for a mani/pedi, complete with trashy romance novel!!! You're still recovering from that virus TOO you know so don't worry, you'll be back to yourself soon, it'll just take a little bit!!!!

Watch a SILLY movie, something to get you laughing, or maybe a good animated one with Ella?

If you can clear your head for the next few days you may feel much better come Monday!!!!

Maybe we should have a gtg and have margaritas and spa treatments! That is always good!

maybe start a journal...just a few lines each day helps. it's supposed to be nice, so a even just a walk to the park or a picnic should get you going!

My rut is getting worse. I got an appt with my hair guy for tomorrow & DH is 'BUSY' and unable to watch the baby. He made plans. My SIL & MIL both have plans too so I have no sitter. So I guess I just sit home alone again. I am tearing up at my desk.

I'm sorry to hear that. Can you go outside for a quick walk around your building or something to get some fresh air and get your mind off things for a minute?

Sending you lots of

Can you change the appointment to Sunday?

If you can, then you need to tell DH that he NEEDS to be available to be with his daughter. If he has plans for Sunday, then he changes them.

awwww i am sorry, is there a very close friend you can ask?

Definitely hope you find somebody to watch the baby, sounds like you really need this and can help you feel better

I feel the same way, gained weight, havent really been keeping up with doing stuff that i need, just hate the way i am looking and feeling. Everything is going wrong, i have the worst luck this year and its just one thing after another. A spa day would be perfect, but i cant even waste money on that now.

Hope you find somebody, ask other family members. How about getting a massage?

OH maaaaan Caroline, is there any neighbor or teenager who can watch her for a little bit????
Anyone at the hair place who'd keep an eye on her for you???? My salon does that for their regulars, they want the business so try to accomodate working mommies.

I won't even start on your DH, he really should be able to flex his 'plans' to watch Ella for a COUPLE OF FREAKIN HOURS.

ah, thanks. I needed a good laugh. That will NEVER HAPPEN. EVER. Don't even get me started.

Re: I'm in a rut

I can relate 'cause I have no motivation to do work right now and I have a huge mailing to get out the door today. I'm hoping that if I can force myself to get that one thing done, then I'll start feeling a little better.

The only thing I can advise, is don't stay home by yourself on Sat. If you are anything like me, you will brood and feel worse and worse. Can you change the hair appointment to tonight or to first thing in the am? Maybe your DH can watch her then. If not, grab Ella and go someplace fun, like the beach or outlet shopping or to hang with a friend.

All I can say about DH is men are impossible and clueless.

I wish I could come help you out!

Re: I'm in a rut

if i didn't have class, I would drive up to RI and watch her for you. Say by to DH - and get away for the weekend.

I agree with the others on the hair and spa stuff but I'm also a big believer in the power of the sun (look at superman!!) and though I so wish I practiced what i preached more so I would be svelte and hot... one thing besides the beach that always makes me feel AMAZING is going for a run outside OR going to spin class. I love the crazy pumping music in spin class. It's just exhilarating and i feel like lately i've been depressed and I keep telling myself to exercise more and be outside more. But i still don't go.
