I'm so sick of trying to please everyone! (Really LONG vent!)

I'm so sick of trying to please everyone! (Really LONG vent!)

I've been so stressed out over figuring out mother's day....

My sister (in staten island) is having a BBQ, starting at 2:30. She figures we'll eat by 4:00 or so, so we don't have to be there on time. My parents are going to see my grandma in brooklyn earlier in the day. She's getting out of a rehab facility tomorrow, so she can't come back to SI for mother's day.

I told my sister on Wednesday night that we might not be able to make the BBQ, since we didn't know what DH's family was doing yet ,and they usually do dinner. Instead, I said we MIGHT see my mom and grandma at my grandma's apartment in brooklyn, and then go to LI to see brad's family. She was like 'okay, let me know,' but sounded annoyed.

DH called his dad Wednesday night to find out what was goign on, and of course, his family hadn't thought about it yet. G-d forbid anyone take into consideration that we have to run around to see both families and can't figure this out at the last minute. By last night, they decided that we'd come over around noon, eat lunch with them and leave at 3, and head to staten island.

I called my dad today and mentioned what we figured out. He sounded surprised that we were coming and told me to make sure I let my sister know (DUH!) I called my mom, and she was with my grandma in the rehab center, and my mom said my grandma wanted to know if brad and I were coming to her place on Sunday, b/c my sister said that we probably were! I was so annoyed, b/c now I feel like I'm letting my grandma down and my sister shouldn't have said anything. She knew we were really trying to figure it out! We can't be in 3 places at once!

My mom said that it was fine, and felt bad that we're running around so much. I told her that my sister had sounded annoyed about the BBQ, and my mom skirted around the issue, but didn't deny it.

I'm just so tired of trying to please everyone! Out of both families, we're the only ones who have to go see two sets of parents. My sister's MIL lives on SI and spends all holidays with my family, so my sister never has to worry about splitting up time. I'm so annoyed that she got annoyed at us for possibly not attending the BBQ, when all we're trying to do is see both of our mothers and make everyone happy, while running ourselves ragged!

I can't wait until the day when we have a house and can have both families together...

We would have the same problems since my family & us live in Brooklyn and ILs live in LI so we have decided so not to hear anyone, I am going to spend the day with my mom &my family and he will spend the day with his mom.

I understand and I'm sorry you have to deal with this! Fortuantely (or unfortunately depending on how you look at it) neither of our mothers live in NY anymore so we send a gift and that's it. But I go through this kind of nightmare for the bigger holidays!

Yeah, I'd be going nuts in your situation.

Honestly, let your sister be annoyed. You're doing the best you can. And you'll still be able to honor BOTH Moms.

We have the same problem!! We live in CT and both of our families are on LI. Instead of either doing both in one day, we just don't go home at all mother's day weekend and use alternate weekends for the moms where we take them out to dinner. I know that sounds horrible, but at least they can't put DH and me against each other or say 'well you spend more time with you IL's'

When we were on LI, we used to alternate breakfast and dinner between the moms on mom's day.

We do the same for fathers day too. THere are no hurt feelings this way. Each mom has their own special weekend and they don't mind cause all they want is to see their kids.
