I know a million people told us this when we were renting our condo and we NEVER did it--But I want to pass on some advice which I am sure all have heard--
I just found out from a friend that there apartment caught fire and they lost everything except their wedding photos (someone was watching over them) they were just married in aug and lost every piece of clothing, all their new furniture and of course all of their wedding gifts-- thank god they werent at home--and yes thank god they had renters insurance-- one thing we have never done but have talked about is taking video of our entire house because you never know--so for all of you who are renting please think about it--

Important for all of us
I am a Property and Casualty agent and I cannot tell you how important it is to make sure that you have proper insurance whether you are a homeowner or a renter. Rental insurance is fairly inexpensive because it is only needed to cover your belongings and not the actual stucture. If you are a homeowner make sure that you have replacement coverage for both your home and belongings. The worst thing in the world is to lose your home and think you have sufficient coverage and then find out that you don't have enough to rebuild. Not every homeowner's policy automatically covers for replacement (including appreciation on your home). Check your policy yearly to make sure that you have enough coverage. Remember if you make any large purchases (big screen TV, audio equipment etc)that you keep the receipts in a fireproof box. Keep your insurance policy there too. Also for both homeowner's and renters it is an excellent idea to videotape each room of your house fully. Keep the tape in a safe place outside your home (safe deposit box). In the event of fire or theft you will be able to prove to the insurance adjuster exactly what you lost. Your insurance agent should be able to help you make sure you have enough coverage for your specific needs.
