Interview Advice

Interview Advice

I went on a second round interview last week and when I left the HR woman asked me to send a copy of my latest pay stub (I think they were verifying my salary) and that things went great and basically told me that they would be giving me an offer. . .

But I haven't heard anything, and that was last Monday.

I know it was a Holiday week, but is it bad for me to email her later on today and just say 'I just wanted to make sure you got my pay stub and that you didn't need anything else right now' and hope that it kind of sparks some kind of contact?

DH and I want to put an offer on a house and I need to see the job offer before we do it. . . .

How long would you wait?

Re: Interview Advice

I would definately email her and just check in- if you didnt already send her a thank you email for meeting with you- you can include it in that context and then ask if she needs any more information.

as an aside, I cant believe that they asked for your pay stub- I always lie about my salary- I'd be screweed if someone tried to verify my actual salary after an interview

i would definitely follow up. it's possible since it was a holiday week they just let things hang for the week.

what kind of job is it? if it's still in finance, yeah, they definitely ask for a pay stub. when i interviewed for my current job, they asked for my prior two paystubs. everyone else i know can fudge the numbers a bit, but when you're in finance, they always check your paystubs, which is irritating!

good luck!!!!

Yeah, its in Finance, it kind of caught me off guard but I had nothing to hide so it wasn't a big deal. I sent a quick follow up email just making sure that they got it and seeing if they needed anything else at this point. I'll keep you girls posted

Yes follow up! Definitely!

But yes the paystub thing is odd. I used to work in HR and know for a fact it is illegal to ask for that info. I worked for 3 major banks and we were never allowed to ask for or release salary info. We could ask the applicant their salary but thats it! By law we were only allowed to verify: position held, dates of employment and reason for leaving. That is pretty ballsy of them to ask for that!

i was going to say, I really would think that's illegal but not sure. I've never been asked and have worked in Finance, HR, Consulting, etc.

It is not legal for your former employer to release the information but they can ask for your paystub to verify. I know people who have gotten fired for lieing about a previous salary.
