Mine is 2 pages. I don't know what to cut! I could take out my summary and 'achievements' -- and I guess for the education section I could only put the college I got my bachelors from, and leave out the other two schools I went to first (I went to adelphi for one semester, then nassau for 3, then went to school in PA) ....
Any tips????

Re: Is a two page resume TERRIBLE?
I guess it depends on your industry- for anything business its a definate no, but since you are in writing (i think) it might be ok. Either way you should probably only put the college that you received your degree from. hth

Re: Is a two page resume TERRIBLE?
try making certain fonts smaller.... and making the spaces smaller between sections
is it ACTUALLY 2 pages? or is it one page and a little bit of page 2? i think it depends on the person who is reading it.. i've heard different people say that 2 pages is bad, but other ppl that say as long as all the information is relevant, its fine to have 2 pages

Re: Is a two page resume TERRIBLE?
My resume is two pages long - it's not terrible. After being out of college for awhile, it's hard not to hit that second page.
Under work experience, only list the jobs you have had since graduating college - anything before that is not necessary unless you recently graduated.
Under education - I would only put the schools that you have a degree or certificate from. An employer doesn't need to know about any other schools.
Your summary shouldn't be that long - no more than a brief sentence or two. You should save your longer summary for your cover letter, which also should be brief - no more than 3 short paragraphs outlining your greatest career accomplishments.
LIsting achievements are good as long as they relate in some way to your career or show leadership/management potential or will help you stand out from the crowd.
Hope that helps! Let me know if you need any other advice, I would be glad to help.

It's about 1.5 pages .... and the spaces between sections, etc are already small ... I think the whole thing is in size 11 font (arial narrow) - I can't make it much smaller. I'm going to look at it more closely now, remove a few things .... thanks girls.

i think 1.5 page resume is fine... as long as all the info is 100% relavant - i think your okay!

Re: Is a two page resume TERRIBLE?
I don't think so, I think it's kind of hard to keep it to 1 page but from what I've seen people are sending in 2 page resumes to our firm. We are hiring right now and people are sending in their resumes it's rare that I see a 1 pager.

How long have you been working and how many jobs have you had? That has a lot to do with it. My resume is 2 pages, but I've been in the corporate world a long time.

Re: Is a two page resume TERRIBLE?
Personally, I don't like 2 page resumes when I interview people. JMO! I think u can probably cut out Adelphi and Nassau. Maybe change the font to Ariel narrow? I look at resumes for friends and colleagues often---you're welcome to send it to me if u want.

Re: Is a two page resume TERRIBLE?
it is not terrible if its full of useful information.....
i personally have to have a CV which needs lists everything including continuing educations so i have 3 full pages so far, and very close to 4 after this next conference next week.....
when i hire i like to see lots of info relating to anything professional so 2 pages is fine with me

Totally agree here. I think it depends on how long you've been working. I don't think 2 pages is rare anymore, especially if you've been working for a longtime now. I think 1 page is more for when your just out of college or only have had a couple of jobs.

Re: Is a two page resume TERRIBLE?
mine is 1 1/4 pages and thats with education being eliminated since i never went to college....i don't even list any volunteerin i did in the past. It's hard to make it shorter bc the font is already small and you never know who you're interviewing with...they could be half blind. you want them to be able to read your resume with ease not squint to make out your tiny font.

Re: Is a two page resume TERRIBLE?
I would do my best to get it to one page. Only give the best of the best. Education - where did you get your degrees. Exerience - related to the position you are looking for.
For me I'd only include where I got my degree and where I'm getting my new degree. I'd include work experience that is most relevent for what I am looking to do and explain what it is that you did that was great. Also I don't know your field but I'd also include any groups you are a member of that are also related to the field you are looking into.

Re: Is a two page resume TERRIBLE?
Jen only list the school you got your degree from all the other schools aren't necessary at this stage in your life.
Internships -- not needed unless you are in the process of changing careers
Only list jobs that are relevent to your field.
Mine is a little over 1 page and i am trying to cut it down.
Also, most places take it in e-mail format so that one page thing doesn't really apply.

Re: Is a two page resume TERRIBLE?
I am in lawschool and have seen few resumes that are less than 2 pages. But I agree, it depends on the industry and the amount of yrs you have been in the workforce

Good thinking about the email!
Unfortunately, all of my jobs relate to what I want to do next in some way - except for my last job - but it was a lot of project mgmt so I think it still relates ... i might remove my first job, I had it for 6 months and hated it, and it wasn't really related to anything else I did afterwards ...

How many jobs have you had in that field? Me personally - I have had alot of jobs since college but will probably only list 3 with long descriptions and maybe just list 2 other jobs with job name and title....you know what I mean? Also def only put the school where you got your degree...they dont need to know you went all over.

Re: Is a two page resume TERRIBLE?
Also I used to work in HR and really only read a few lines of each resume...I scanned for key words and looked for people who had longevity in their previous jobs. I would keep it to one page. we did get alot of 2 pages but they were older/more established types.
