Is anyone else freaked out??

By Yabbo's last post and abrupt departure?? It's got me thinking about sharing too much info on the web and now I want to delete all of my posts!

Me too claud !! Gosh, and I am one to reveal SO MUCH !! DH and my brothers have always yelled at me and my sis for always being 'big mouths' , now i feel like deleting all my pictures my name, etc etc... yikes..
I guess when youre a trusting person, you think and hope that the whole world is trusting..
unfortunately thats not true !

maybe we should ask LIW about this...

I have felt that way from day one, even when there was no reason for concern. I don't trust anyone or anything on the web no how safe someone might say it is. So aside from a friendly exchange of advice and questions/answers, I've always been cautious of that.

But on a lighter note Claud, I think Yabbo's situation wasn't as serious as you might think. From what I understand, I think she shared info with someone and someone else passed it along and it came full circle back to her. Its such a small world, maybe she didn't think the LIW world would leak into her real life! (and you especially don't want someone messing around with your career) I could be totally wrong on the above, but if you're always careful you have nothing to worry about.

Claud, I wouldn't panic. I agree with what Anna and Kate are saying, and I too was surprised by the recent posts that everyone so enthusiastically responded to about where they work, what FH does, etc. That is too much info for a general forum.
I would NEVER put my employer's name on a chat board.

Im not worried. Unless I have forgotten something major, there really isnt anything I have shared that I would be too upset about the world knowing.

Since Erica is a teacher she is probably in a much more sensitive situation than most of us.

I also think some people are more private than others and I am not that private of a person - some people have unlisted numbers (which I really dont understand unless you are a cop or a judge or a teacher, etc..), some people wont open the drapes in their living room on sunny days because they dont want anyone seeing in their house. But my guess is that if you are a very private person, going online to talk about your wedding/personal life isnt going to happen anyway.

I agree...there is certain information that can be shared in an open forum. Listing your place of employment, even where you live, is risky business.

Even the vendors watch these boards and know all about you!

Sharing advice and offering suggestions is fine...but when it comes to my personal life, I'll keep that to myself!

I do not share any personal info here, and I am always careful, but I do not know what it would profit anyone to go back and tell someone about something that they read on here.

As comfortable as we might feel, we have to still remember that we are on the net. Hubby was opposed at first, but he got over it, he kept saying don't post my pix on here, don't post where I work etc, etc It is unfortunate what happens to Yabooby, but just keep it in the back of your mind...this is the internet

I don't get though how a student found her on a wedding website. I didn't think many students would be interested in weddings. It's a small world and you never know who knows who I guess. It totally ****s. You get so comfortable, especially here.

I'm not too worried either, but I've never shared my last name, exactly where I live or work. I agree that some careers may be more vulnerable to sharing on the internet. And there are psychos out there, so in general, I think when we post on the internet, we have to be aware of it.

For Gods sake, we've even given out our bra sizes!! LOL...

Re: Is anyone else freaked out??

I actually went back and deleted some posts afted reading Erica's post. I think we have a false sense of security and even if the things we're posting aren't that personal, they could get us in trouble.

For example, I could see some friend of X stumble upon the site when planning a wedding. She mentions it and finds out I'm on it. Out of curiousity she does a search on me and sees things I've written about X- that'd be enough to get me in trouble (those posts are the ones I deleted).

While the above scenario sounds far fetched, it could very easily happen.

I've also had vendors contact me because of posts. Doesn't much matter anymore since I'm done with all of them, but for the brides to be - they should be cautious about what they say about their vendors.

It totally freaked me out too. I haven't revealed my last name and where I work. But I have shared some personal information.

But I also agree with Sonicstef and how some people are more private then others.

I'd like to hear with LIWeddings say about this!

Ladies
I wouldnt worry bout it
I didnt give my bra size LOL

Re: lisat, u have forum mail...

I dont understand exactly what happened. Was there students on this website? If so , what were they doing on here? I try to be careful about what I post. I have posted some personal info about certain things and have wondered who actually comes on here since I have spoke about how wonderful this board was during my planning. I wonder exactly what happened...... It is a little sad to see all new names on the board, but that is life and life goes on

Re: lisat, u have forum mail...

its not just negative comments about vendors that cause problems - its information on pricing, deals, negotiating etc.

I had yet another vendor contact me today because I told someone what I paid for their services vs. what they're asking now. Makes me avoid the bride side all together these days...

Wow Lisa, I cant believe the vendor would contact you let alone a bride would share info to the vendor that another bride passed on to them..unbelievable!
