Is anyone looking for a home??

Jim and I lived together before we were married - we live in an apartment. We said we would wait to buy a house but now I need somethnig new to look forward to so we've started looking. I'm not sure if we are being foolish b/c houses are so high - but will they really come down?? Is anyone else out there looking?

I'm looking for a home as well and I have been for about 2 years. I live in Queens and would like to stay there, but unfortunately, with the market so high it is so discouraging.

We just bought a house, and close on August 15. We paid a bit more for our house than we were planning to, but it's in a neighborhood with a great school district, and is in beautiful move-in condition. We saw a lot of really horribly maintained houses that were actually quite expensive, considering all the work they needed, so when we found our house we figured it was worth it since it needed no repairs. Don't get discouraged... your perfect house is out there! : )

JennRenee Where??

Do you mind saying where you bought?
We are looking in Rockville Centre, Bethpage, Farmingdale, Seaford, Massapequa, and Wantagh. I too have been very suprised at some of the houses we have looked at - they are so run down. How long did you look?? Did you go through a real estate broker?
When did you get married??

JennRenee Where??

We looked for about 2 months before we found our house. It's in St. James. It's a 3 bedroom ranch with an inground pool. Everything in the house is new and updated, so we were thrilled! We have lots of things that we want to do to the house cosmetically, but nothing we NEED to do.
Patrick and I got married on July 6th... 2 weeks ago! : ) We are now living with my parents ~ not a picnic, but it's only for 3 more weeks.
We didn't go through a broker, but we were just about ready to. We were not seriously looking at the time we found our house (in May). We just wanted to see what was out there, and were going to start looking for real in August. We were so horrified by what we saw on our own that we were ready to turn to a broker, and then WHAM! We found our home.
Don't get frustrated... you'll find yours! : ) And it will be PERFECT for you!!

Looking for a home

We looked for almost 2 years before we found the house we absolutely loved in Massapequa - we moved in in November 00 and got married in May of 01 and I think you are way better off looking now after the wedding! LOL! We also paid more than we wanted but prices don't seem to be moving down. I work in the mortgage industry and it doesn't look like rates are moving lower either. I would just take your time and not stress and believe that when you find it you will know!

? for the ladies who bought a house

After you find a house and you make your down payment.....how much extra would you say you need right away for closing costs and whatever else? Or do they include this in the final price of the house? Just curious!

I'm closing either next week or the week after, so I'll let you know. We planned for about $10,000. Hopefully it won't be much more than that!
