....DH and I just got a wedding invitation from DH's college roommate and it was addressed to:
Miss Nicole (maiden name) Mr. Nicholas Lynch
I mean we don't really know the girl and the invites came from her family, but they were at our wedding! I'm sure they just didn't update the address list b/c when they sent their STDs we weren't married, but I was so disappointed (perhaps irrationally, but still)! This was one of the first things that would say Mr & Mrs....boo.
Also, they put the registry info IN THE WEDDING INVITATION!! so to that. meh.

Yes, that is a bummer. It was fun seeing the first piece of mail arrive with Mr. & Mrs. M... Write the check out to Mr. Smith and Ms. Doe instead of the traditional Mr. & Mrs.
More upsetting is that they included the registry info in the wedding invite. Beyond tacky.

Yes I know the registry info is a major faux pas!! Ah well. They are from PA....guess they don't know better. I emailed DH about it and he said they probably hadn't gotten the memo yet....which is obviously the case I'm going to fill out the RSVP Mr. & Mrs. and hope that the placecard gets changed

i'm the opposite; i've been getting mail to mrs. silvana_____and it freaks me the eff out, i don't love it. i haven't changed my name yet; people assume.
i don't see the big deal with the registry, especially if they are non NYers. things are done differently in other states. maybe they don't have showers or something. also, I have friends from PA who had a really hard time giving me money for my wedding because that's not what they were used to and they thought money was impersonal, so I would just give them the benefit of the doubt in that respect.

Even in places where gifts are given in a wedding you are NEVER supposed to include registry information. The only reason it is acceptable for showers is because someone else is throwing it for you.
As for the enveloping wording, that kind of stinks! I still get really giddy when I see Mr and Mrs! I LOVE IT!

i know that and wouldn't do it but I think out of state weddings are just different. especially when she said they are from PA, and after hearing my friend telling me that she never gave money AND after all my work people asking me where I was registered because it didn't say on my invite I'm just like well okay it's not as bad as the no boxed gifts thing i think. but i hear you.
yeah i'm a total weirdo. but so is he - I put his name on the marriage license and he was like '?!?! I thought you weren't changing it?!' Thanks, I love you too clown.

sorry, I just assumed since so many people can't wait to take their new last name. to me it's just totally not like that - i like my name.
BUT you know what my biggest problem with it (one of the biggest) is (and you should get this ) my first name is super italian, and his last name is so NOT - it's like 4 letters and doesn't end in a vowel, and is a type of animal (that flies, hint) so it doesn't work with my name at all. I sound like some weird foreign animal species. AND i'm the only one who didn't marry an italian guy and the last girl so until further notice i'm keeping my ethnic last name that goes with my ethnic first name

Okkk that is weird! Only thing I can think is what someone else said....they had them printed awhile ago and someone wasn't thinking!!!
On the rsvp be sure to write 'mr and mrs ______' will attend! Let's hope they get the seating card right!!!!
Also - out of state people usually include registry cards. I know it is tacky but its just what they do!!!

I totally understand. Everytime you hear me brag about how much I love my new last name just remember, I went from super Italian last name to. . .super Italian last name that goes with my super Italian first name and get this. . .
I GET TO KEEP MY INITIALS!!!
so i think i should keep my mouth shut bc boy, did i luck out with THAT!!

I know...I HATE this too!! But outiside of NY, everyone gives gifts and not $$$ so it's important.
My cousin is from NC and her wedding invitiation said: 'Black tie optional' The next line read: 'The bride and groom are registered at TARGET!'

Re: Is it silly that I'm disappointed that...
aw, i understand that you were just hoping to see your new last name, but it was a genuine mistake, since they sent it prior to your weddiing.
also, i didnt personally do it, but ill never understand why its considered 'tacky' to include registry info, bc i could care less what ya put in your invite.
btw- altho im not from pa, ive lived here for like 5 yrs, little newsflash, lol, ppl in PA on the whole are not a bunch of back wood hill-billies. i think it may have more to do with the particular person and preference. its one thing to say things are done differently in NY and another to say oh i think her being from PA explains it all. this isn't said in a biitchy tone. i found it kind of amusing/confusing.

Yea it stinks, I remember getting out first invite after our wedding and being extremely annoyed. Even now when someone calls and asks for Mr & Mrs. it puts me over the edge....its annoying but Im sure it wasnt intentional
Like someone else said about the registry info-this is actually normal practice in other states. Its only a faux pas in NY (and a few other states) but everywhere else that is normal to include in the invitation. Most other states give gifts not money AND its totally expected and never considered tacky or a faux pas

Re: Is it silly that I'm disappointed that...
Its funny you say that, I would be a little upset
I went to a wedding 3 weeks after my own, and the place card had our names separate, not mr. and mrs. These people were at my wedding, but they probably didnt realize that when they printed their place cards to update them.
I wouldnt get to upset because you have the rest of your life to get inviations addressed to mr. and mrs.

haha thanks everyone, I know it wasn't intentional, I was just venting about my irrational annoyance from it! Sorry didn't mean for this discussion to become heated about the whole registry thing! I don't hold it against them and know exactly how the whole thing happened I was just irrationally disappointed....i'm better now
