I was going to hand in my resignation tomorrow. I do not have a job lined up but it's so bad there that I do not even care, i just want to leave.
Anyway, I just found out today that my director is leaving for business from 4/7 - 4/18
I was planning on making my last day 4/25.. but since she will be away she will not have time to find my replacement. There is a person who can scan resumes who is right below her but Iknow that she would want to make the final decision.
Is it wrong of me to give my notice tomorrow, making my last day 4/25 if she will be traveling?

If things are so bad for you there, then who cares if they're inconvenienced! If you're that annoyed with your job, they obviously don't care enough about you to treat you properly.
My main concern is not how your boss would deal with your position being empty.... rather it is that you will not be eligible for unemployment since you're quitting. But, if you can afford it, I say go for it tomorrow!
good luck!

Do you just feel bad that they won't have or find a replacement? If it is that bad there I wouldn't worry about giving in your notice. You gave a 2 weeker and it is their problem to find a replacement not yours. She will still have a week to find someone when she comes back and she does have help as you said so i would say not to worry about it. You would be in this scenario anyway if you had a job lined up. So I would say just give it and be stress free.
I know how you feel. I am hoping to do the same thing in a few weeks just waiting for things to calm down. My new VP and manager are arses. Good luck with whatever you decided.

If things are that bad.... you shoudn't care what happens once you hand in your resignation... That's the b*tch in my talking though and I have been in a position where my job was unbearable and I left without notice..

the fact is that you ARE technically giving two weeks notice. her traveling is bad timing, but so what? you're not happy and you're doing what's right. go ahead and call it quits!

business is business...as long as you give 2 weeks it's not your problem...as my Dh tells me...a company would turn around and lay you off in a second if they had to...so you always do what's best for you as well....as long as you follow proper office etiquette...good luck!

ITA! When companies are ready to fire someone, they don't think about the position they are leaving that person in. They don't give that person a chance to find a new job before they are let go, they just let them go. So you should not care about the amount of time they will have to find a replacement. They will survive one way or another.

I say go. If you're as unhappy as you say you are why should you care if they'll have a replacement or not?

Two weeks is quite considerate of you. No where does it state that you must give two weeks notice for quitting. The fact that your boss will be travelling becomes her problem, not yours. Why delay your misery ?
After all, most of the time when people are laid off, they are required to leave within that day. I've been laid off twice - and neither time did I have more than a few hours to gathter my stuff together.
Now don't you feel better ?

OK, I did it today! I actually resigned. The 30 minutes leading up to it were nauseating for me but right now i feel relieved most of all.
I gave them 3 weeks notice. The fun starts when I start interviewing for a new job.
Is anyone;s job looking for an admin/ data entry type person? My career in the fashion industry has officialy ended.
