My iPod won't sync. It won't give me the option to sync even though I have it plugged in. I tried it a bunch of different ways - opening iTunes then plugging in the USB cord, plugging in the cord first, having the iPod on and plugging it in, having it off, etc. Nothing works. We even have two cords and neither is giving me the option to sync. I created a new playlist and I think there are also songs that are on my iTunes but not on the iPod yet. Anyone know what's wrong? How do I fix it??

does your ipod otherwise work OK? did you try to reset it or put it in disk mode? i had this problem, but the problem was with my actual ipod, the hard drive was damaged. if your ipod is otherwise working OK, resetting it should help.

Yes - my ipod works fine. Does resetting it make you lose what's on it? I would hate to lose it and then not be able to sync still .... you know what I mean?

resetting it won't erase the songs. restoring it is what makes you lose all your music. does your ipod come up in the itunes side bar?

You mean where it lists all the playlists? No, nothing's there. I think it used to say 'My iPod' or something - but nothing now.
I was just looking at it and there is a place that says 'reset all settings' - is this what I should try to do? Does that just reset the master volume level and things like the sound of the clicker, etc??

I answered on LIF. I had the same problem. Your ipod may be fried...thats what was wrong with mine. Go to an apple store to have a free evaluationd done and dont waste time uninstalling, reinstalling, yada, yada!

just responded to you on LIF :) I always say to myself, whyyyyy do people post the same thing on both boards???? I just became one of those people. But I am going to try what tina suggested and then if that does not work, go to the store tomorrow. thanks hon!

Tina! resetting it by holding down the menu and center buttons at the same time worked! It sync-ed! Thank you!!! This has been happening for about 2 weeks and I never really bothered to look into it and you fixed it in like 5 mins!

Do you have more than one USB port? If so I would try it with that one-maybe it's not responding. That's probably not it but worth a shot. I would also do what Jenn said and go to the store and get it checked out. They should be able to help you. Good luck!
