Jenna Bush - 'house party'?

I'm reading Newsday this morning and there is an article about Jenna Bush's wedding.

It says.........No bridesmaids, but she'll have a 14-woman 'house party'.

Is this something new?

Maybe they mean 'hen party' which the european equivalent of our bachelorette party?

House party is what they call the bridal party in Texas. I guess it really is true when they say Texas is like a whole other country...
