JennRenee ... I just finished a new book ...

Not sure if you read it, but I just finished reading 'Forgive the Moon' by Maryanne Stahl. It was good, not better than Jodi Picoult, but the same type of writing. Acutally she has a review from Jodi on the front cover ... didn't see that until I brought the book home.

Just thought I'd share since you love to read so much!

Thanks Cira! I was actually planning on heading over to Borders today to pick up reading material for the week! I always prefer to go with a recommended book, than to wander blindly around the store.

You're to funny ... well, at least I'm glad that I can help.
This is the first book that I read in a long time ... it's winter break and I can finally read a fiction book versus a text book!

Relax and enjoy your break! How many more credits until your graduate??

About 15 credits. It's worth it ... just stressful. I feel guilty all the time that I'm in class vs. home with Rob! Oh well, I'll be done before I know it!

I am going to start Raising Fences this week. But I finished The Secret Life of Bees about 2 weeks ago and it was a really good book. Very touching, and made you think. I have to look into this one too.
If you haven't read The Red Tent, or Poisonwood Bible I highly recommend them. Those are the WOW books of 2002 for me.

Thanks Michele ... I need to pick up some more books too! I'm going to start with your 'wow' books first!

I LOVED the Poisonwood Bible, but couldn't seem to get into The Red Tent.

Cira, 15 credits will FLY by, and then you'll be done. You have a great attitude though... I remember having 15 credits left in my master's and thinking flipping burgers at McDonalds had to be better than sitting in the godforsaken classroom I was in...
But you are absolutely right... it IS worth it ~ 100%!

Yeah but I'm taking classes part time ... so it's taking forever! Thanks for the encouragement though ... as you know, you need them sometimes! To help keep you going!

How far did you get in the Red Tent? For me, it helped me to understand a very different world. I loved the female bonding and how the mother/son relationship develops.
Also, Girl with Pearl Earring was wonderful. It was a beautiful idea- the author used a painting and tried to 'imagine' why a young poor girl would have her portrait painted. It is a beautiful story about love and growing up.

I stuck it out for about 100 pages in the Red Tent. For some reason the story just didn't grab me.
I have heard good things about Girl With Pearl Earring. It's been on my To Read list for a while! Should have picked it up today, but forgot, as usual.

Jenn, what book did you pick up yesterday?

I think I'm going to take a walk to Striands and she what I can get today! I started a new book this morning, but I think it's going to be an easy read!

Michele...LOL...we have very similar taste in books. I really enjoyed the Poisonwood Bible and the Girl with the Pearl Earring. The Red Tent, though...one of my absolute favorites. I was completely engrossed-couldn't put it down!!

Just finished Good in Bed. It was OK. A little too light for me.

Re: JennRenee ... I just finished a new book ...

I just started Raising Fences and am already hooked- chapter 1 only too.
If you like a bit of History Truman is amazing to read. Yes it is one big book, but well worth the time it takes to read. I also really enjoy Jane Austin books and the Chronicles of Narnia. I try to read classics and some history too.
Get the other book by the women who wrote Girl with Pearl Earring and Red Tent- both very good. I enjoy a 'light' book every once in a while but normally I like these types of books.

Michele - you've given me some good reads. A lot of the other receommendations were a bit light for my tastes - I didn't really enjoy the Jodi Picoult books, but I loved Girl with a Pearl Earring and The Red Tent was really interesting.

Any good mystery recommendations from anyone?

Re: JennRenee ... I just finished a new book ...

It would be great if LIW helps us with this. I am reading Raising Fences- it was a Today Show book club pick. So far it is great. Not very light though.
Maybe we need a 'tab' at the top for our book club.
