Lee DeWyze: Fighting His Way To The Top!
Back in high school, American Idol finalist Lee DeWyze, 24, had a reputation as a guy whose temper got the best of him too easily. But it turned out that getting kicked out of his Mount Prospect, Ill., public school for fighting was the best thing that could have happened to him.
Lee was transferred to the nearby Forest View Alternative School, which focuses on 'redirecting inappropriate and counter-productive student behavior,' during his senior year in 2003. It was there that he turned his life in the right direction under the guidance of teacher Amy Simverman.
“He always had a guitar in his hand,” Amy tells Star of Lee. “He would make up songs off the top of his head.” The two remain close and Amy was even there to support Lee during his Idol audition.
“Lee deserves all the good things that are coming his way.”
