Jewish newlyweds, a few questions...

Jewish newlyweds, a few questions...

What was the order of your first couple of dances?

We wanted to enter with 'first dance' but then I am not sure whether or not we should do a hora or the parent dances...

What's better? If we do hora as #2, then people will already be on the dance floor and will have to go to their seats for the parent dances... But if we do a parent dance before the hora, people may be bored having to sit through 2 songs!!!

Also, our cocktail hour is BEFORE the ceremony. Do I place the kippot near the seating cards (i.e. at the entrance to the hall) or on a small table at the entrance to the patio, where ceremony will be held?

Thank you so much for your help.

My parent dance was done after the cake cutting, so the dance floor was already cleared. Kippot should be at the entrance to the ceremony imo.

I'm with Tammy. We did the Hora early but definitely not first and the parent dances came after the cake I think.

Can't remember. It is all a blur!!!

Tammy, sorry for confusing you. I thought kippot was familiar to most people LOL. Now, I'll call them 'yarmolkas'

Re: Jewish newlyweds, a few questions...

My very good friend got married at temple- the first dance was first... the bride and groom made their entrance- walked around the dance floor and went right into it- people were not invited to join in. Then they went straight into the hora... it was long and so much fun... since everyone was already around the dance floor watching the first dance it worked very well...

The parents dances were after the cake.

The kippot were place on a small table outside of the ceremony room (their cocktail hour was before too) as well as programs explaining all of the traditions to explain to non-jewish guests like me :)

no need to be sorry, I just never heard that word
although, my grandma, should rest in peace, used to tell me to lay keppie when I was a baby, I thought it meant go to sleep!

Awwwwww Tammy...

That just brought back memories. My grandma would 'kiss my keppie to go shluffie (sp?)' all the time.

Our yarmulkes were placed by the entrance of the ceremony room in baskets.

first dance is first then immediately into the hora.... that is what is typical.
your band should know how it should go....

Tammy, I looked for you too, but there are SO many slot machines at Showboat!!!!

We actually played the poker machines for a while in that lounge area and then some Let it Ride.

It was imposible to get near those blackjack tables on Saturday!!!!
