Jobs and Houses

Jobs and Houses

Well it looks like what I've been expecting for a while will come to pass tomorrow....

Our company is being acquired and I've known for several months that I'm likely to be either out of a job or be expected to move to the Minneapolis headquarters. I got a call today from my the VP of our department. He's flying in to meet with me to 'discuss my future' and he's going to have someone from Human Resources with him, so I'm expecting that is to explain my severance and exit package.

So... we're in Boston now, and hubby wants to move back to Long Island.

What I'm wondering is if any of you can recommend some good headhunters I could speak to, or can recommend your company if they are hiring.

I have a background in Marketing, Customer Service and Product / Project Management. Hubby is looking for a position as a Sales Trainer or Corporate Trainer.

We'll also be looking to buy a house and could use referals to a good real estate agent too.

If you want to contact me directly, just e-mail me at [email protected]

Thanks in advance.....!

Karen - I'm in marketing myself, I'll keep my ears open! Unfortunately, my headhunter left the business to work in the industry, but I'll let you know if I hear anything. I know a bunch of realtors for the Massapequa area in Nassau and the Babylon/West Islip area in Suffolk - all the places we looked for a house for over a year and a half!! Let me know if those are areas you are interested in.

Jobs and Houses/Long Beach-Phyl

Phyl,

We are in Long Beach practically every Thursday night. Hubby plays in the Evolutions Beach volleyball league and we have a good friend that lives on Tennessee Ave.

Wow!! what a coincidence! LB is a alot of fun..
Tennessee is on the West End- lotsa bungalows ..
We are on the east end which is a bit
quieter- and the housing is more one and 2 families
in that section.
Would you believe the beach is 3 blocks away and I haven't
had the chance to buy our beach passes yet! let alone walk on
the beach. The weather has just started to get a bit
nicer- but rain is predicted all weekend!

Trust me I can believe it. It always seems like there are NEVER enough hours in the day.

You might want to try looking at Newsday.com. That is the website for Newdsay which is the biggest newspaper on Long Island. They have their entire classified section online and it is updated daily. Jobs, housing etc. are all there so you can get some ideas ahead of time. I know what you are going through. I have been job hunting for the last month and a half and it is never fun. Good luck with everything.

Wendy;

Thanks! Hubby's mother has been sending him things she has pulled from there, although she has not been looking for me, probably just because we haven't given her any info on what I'm looking for. I'll have to give it a look myself.

She's desperately trying to find jobs in LI in order to keep us from moving to Arizona.

Now that I have an official exit date (July 20) I have spread the word internally. I'm fortunate to work for a large company with a national presence. Our Metro NY salesman has already offered to give my resume to 3 different people on LI and I have several leads for headhunters to speak with.

What type of job are you looking for? e-mail me and I'll pass on anything I run across that might be helpful.
