Jury Duty

Jury Duty

How many times can you postpone?

I postponed once already, if I do it again this would be my second time and my company is forcing me to come in.

Re: Jury Duty

Your company legally cannot force you to skip jury duty, even though DH's job did the same thing to him.

Aside from that, you can try to postpone by mail again but I suspect the court will reject it and send it back to you (like they did to DH). You should try to call the number they give you on the jury summons and see what the court says. If you can't postpone by mail, you might have to go in person. I served jury duty over the summer and the first thing they did was deal with all the people who said they couldn't serve for whatever reason that day.

IMO it's probably better to just get it over with since it's only 1 day now (provided you don't get called to a case) and then they won't call you again for 6 years.

Re: Jury Duty

Exactly, thats why I want to go so I can get it over with but my company is not leaving me with a choice. They said they desperately need me and told me to postpone...they aren't even leaving me with a choice when I call to postpone the phone system is automated so I can't even speak with someone.

Oh well, we'll see what happens...thanks for the info.

Re: Jury Duty

Sorry I can't be of more help.

I know when DH sent his thing back w/ a postponed date they sent it back to him in the mail with something written on it.. If you try to do it by mail and then you get it back, you can show your company that the court is telling you no so this way they can at least give you the morning to go and take care of it in person. And there's always the possibility that the court will let you just adjourn it again by mail. Good luck!
