Jury Duty

Jury Duty

Just wondering if anyone knows .. since I won`t be able to call anyone til Tuesday because of the weekend and holiday.

I was called for Jury Duty about three months ago, and had to postpone. When I called in for the postponement, I had problems with their automated system .. it was telling me the date I was choosing was a Sunday, although it really was a Monday! Anyway, now they`ve scheduled me for a bad week, not the week I requested.

The form says you`re only allowed 1 postponement .. but does anyone know if they will allow for exceptions?

One other thing I was wondering about .. in thinking about Jury Duty, what an inconveniece it is, and what a crazy world we live in .. do public personalities have to do this too? I mean .. how could an actor or sports figure or news anchor do this without fear of someone tracking them down if a conviction is made in their case?

Jury Duty... a stab at an answer and a new question! : )

Kel,

I think they DO make exceptions, but thry need to be in extreme situations. You would probably need some written documentation that you are direly needed somewhere else.

Actually, you just made me think... I was called for jury duty earlier this year, and since the time they had me down for was the first week of school, I postponed. I asked to be rescheduled for this coming week, and I still haven't heard anything. Am I supposed to call them?

Gee ..

Lucky you! Can you go for me, and I go for you whenever they get around to calling you? LOL (Just for the record for anyone reading .. that was an absolute joke, and I would never do such a thing).

Seriously, I was beginning to wonder myself about whether I was going to be called, since I had requested the end of this month. Well, they were off by a week! If I were you, I wouldn`t worry about it. Maybe they didn`t need you at this time.

But that leads me to a new question .. what if your jury summons was lost in the mail and you never got it, therefore never showed up? What would happen then? I mean, you don`t sign for those notices when they come, so how can they be sure you really got it or not.

Kel, I hope...

...that MY notice didn't get lost in the mail... jail time is SO not appealing to me!

Oh, and if it WERE legal for us to switch jury duty times, I'd gladly do it for you!
