I guess I can just look this one up... but I served jury duty in spring 2005.
Isn't that supposed to be good for 4 years?
I just got SERVED [folds arms]
I'm supposed to call on Sept 5 (THANKFULLY b/c we're going away next week...)
but... I'm starting grad school on the 4th and I DON'T want to miss classes the first week of school
could it be because my name changed?

I honestly think it's totally random. I have never been called.

Re: Jury Duty
I thought they always send a questionaire 1st asking if you served in the last 4 years. I had to call in to Suffolk in December and I believe it is 6 years now. Is there a number you can call? That's just wrong.

Re: Jury Duty
It most likely is bc you changed your name. Call them and ask them to look up the time you served so that you have to actual date then ask them what the cutoff is. If i remember correctly its supposed to 4 but i think it was just changed to 6...could be wrong on the 6 part

Re: Jury Duty
Sorry for crashing, but if you can get your school schedule printed you can also get it postponed for that as well (just another way to get out of it, if the previous service thing doesn't work).

It may be by SS number. Hopefully you can put it off. I think Grad school is a legit excuse.

Re: Jury Duty
I got 2 jury summons in the same year...one was from Suffolk County...then i got one from the town of Southampton...i didn't even know they had juries! If you are a fulltime student i think they let you get out of it...good luck!

Re: Jury Duty
You can be served for different types of jury duty such as civil and federal. If you did civil in 2005 then they can serve you federal at any time after. If it's the same type then you shouldn't have to go. You can also get it postponed.

Re: Jury Duty
Is it the same type of jury duty (ie county vs federal) Different rules apply for both.
