UGH that stinks. I went in december 2003 i think - in nassau, where I lived at the time. Haven't gotten a suffolk one yet - hope I don't! I know people ignore them - I know several people who have ignored them for 20 years or more and never got 'caught' - but I cannot do that.

If I get called, I hope it's while I am out of work!!!!

You will probably be done with it on Monday. I was there all day, read a lot, and I was called in for a case, but they let me go at the end of the day.

DH just informed me last night that he has been throwing away those notices for a while now. Being that I work for the courts, I almost smacked him upside the head! So now he is going to be summonsed to appear in person and explain why he hasn't answered. lol

I don't know why some people dread it, I look at it as not having to go to work, anything to get out of not having to go to work is good for me :)

i figured i'd just deal with it instead of pushing it off....hate to have it once the weather gets nice. just really swamped right now at work so i hope it goes quick! i could never just ignore it...i have terrible luck and would totally get caught!

Re: jury duty

ah! I've never had to serve yet. I got called to Jury Duty last year and i had to go sit in this random big room for a few hours, but i was never chosen. When they gathered us and asked if any of us would have issues with coming to court for the next 2 weeks, I told them that I'm a teacher and it could be a problem to find a replacement for me during that time. They immediately let me go and then I waited another half hour, but was never called in again.

So basically, it was just a day off from work where I got to sit and read a good book for a few hours. lol. Nothing bad.

Being on the jury could be kinda fun though, depending on the case. lol. I always picture 'My Cousin Vinny'.

yeah, i guess i'll bring a book and my ipod if i get called....just seems like a lot of sitting around and waiting wich i am not good at, lol.

Re: jury duty

It's not that bad. Worse part is the commuting, since I live in Queens. I've done Federal, criminal and civil.
Last civil sitting, I was questioned for 3 trials and got let go because of conflicts.
A lot of people walk in with a chip on their shoulder because they have been called for jury duty. They get nasty and downright beligerent.
Those are the people most likely to get chosen to sit on a jury, just because.
Federal was the worst only because I had to travel to Brooklyn for two weeks. I came this close to being picked for a trial that lasted 8 weeks before it was thrown out by the judge.

I don't think it's that bad. I sat on a case in 2004. I'm waiting for my slip to come now that I moved to Nassau. Any day now lol. I wouldn't mind going especially since it gets me out of work!
