Has anyone ever not shown up and know what happens?

Re: Jury Duty
I think they send you a summons to court where YOU are the defendant..

Re: Jury Duty
I'm pretty sure that's a big, huge no-no. I just did a quick Google search and saw stuff about fines, arrest warrants and jail time (though likely it wouldn't get that extreme).

You can deferr it. Don't just not show up. Although, I admit I did that once. I got the letter at home when I was away in Delaware for college. I never got called out on it, but I guess I sort of had a good excuse!

Re: Jury Duty
If you don't show up, you will get a summons in the mail and YOU WILL HAVE to appear. It's better to get a postponement.

Re: Jury Duty
Chris I just asked my DH who you know works for NYSP - he said by not showing up it is considered contempt of court...dont mess w/that. Either go & play off that you cannot be a fair judge b/c your 'brother-in-law' is in law enforcement. My dad did that - he gave the same statement (I cannot be a fair judge b/c my son-in-law is in law enforcement) to every question & he got sent home. You can use my DH as your 'bro-in law' for the day

Re: Jury Duty
I know someone who pretends he never got the letter. Though finally they got on him, so he went. He knows so many lawyers though that every time he goes he seems to know the lawyer at the trial and gets dismissed.

That may be true....but if they're ever pulled over for any kind of traffic violation & their license is run through NYS computer - it will come up w/ a warrant for contempt of court - failure to show for jury duty...just fyi
