i really feel you...i have 2 kitties and it is so much work!.... how is she able to take care of them? she doesnt get tired herself? i wouldnt say anything if i were you , i would let your DH speak to her if your concerned about the baby being an environment like that...with cat hair, and smell, and so forth

Re: Just a vent....
That is kind of tough. I HATE walking into a place that has alot of animals , and it smells or you see tons of hair all over. I am all for animal lovers, and I think it is awesome people who want to rescue animals and stuff like that, but you have to keep your house clean. If the person can't keep up with cleaning it, they should think about maybe getting rid of some of the animals.
I agree with the whole baby thing as well. I love animals, but having so many around a baby may be too much. It's tricky. I am sorry I can't offer anything :( It ***** to have to tell someone that the reason you don't want to come over with your baby or your dog, is b/c there are too many animals and it's just too crazy!

I think that is what I will end up having to do...I will never say anything because it's just not my place but DH will have no problems saying he isn't comfortable.

Wow, thats a lot of animals. My friend has three cats and one dog and i thought THAT was a lot! I can't imagine the smell from seven cats! I don't want to scare you, but isn't it dangerous for pregnant women to be around cat poop? Not that you are playing in the litter box, but still with all of those cats I would be concerned.

Thanks, the house isn't dirty dirty but you know what I mean when you have that many animals it's hard! It is hard for me with the 1 dog to clean up after his hair it's just there even after I clean and vaccum the entire place 3x over, triple that with all the other animals it's just too hard!

Re: Just a vent....
I grew up with cats and dogs, but I understand what you're saying and I sympathize. We inherited my DH's mother's shepard when she passed away. We already had my DH's Wheaten Terrier who is really a good dog. She's a horse and she sheds like you wouldn't believe...it makes me crazy! For the most part she's a good dog but the hair really bothers me. I feel for you...it's a touchy situation.

That will work then. DH to the rescue hehe. I hope she isn't too offended by it.

I can't clean the litter box which would never happen anyway! I don't even know where she keeps them to be honest!

Re: Just a vent....
That really is a lot. When the baby is born would you consider hosting Sunday dinners in your house so that the Animal Kingdom isn't present? I dont think a newborn especially should be around so many animals. Its great that your DH and you agree on this.

Re: Just a vent....
I totally understand. I would feel the same way you do about brining the baby over there. Maybe you can start hosting Sunday dinner once the baby comes...it'll be easier anyway that way.
I go through something similar with my MIL whom I absolutely love. She is a smoker and that house just stinks of smoke. It's a tricky situation...I have to move out there come Feb. and I'm dreading it. You see FH owns that house and I own my place in Queens. I'm going to leave the apt. here in Queens vacant until it rents or sells. I've really been putting off doing this because I dread the smoky house...we're there on the weekends (FH made a nice basement apt. which is where we'll be moving to..his mom lives in the main part of the house.) It's tough to navigate through that and I think about that when we eventually decided to have a baby. I really don't want to have my baby there..even though we're on a seperate floor I've already had to get an Ionic breeze and a home medics air filter thing. SO don't feel alone in your vent.

There was a time for awhile that my aunt had seven cats, and believe it or not, if you didn't see them you would never know...never smelled.
Pregnant woman shouldn't clean or change the litter box.

See that is similar, it's hard because you can't tell her to stop smoking. Although maybe DH can say something along the lines of having her smoke outside?? Not sure if taht will work lol. I love love love this woman and don't want to offend her ever! I just have concerns and I can't help that. It is tradition to do things in their house, they don't have their father around anymore so for me to start hosting sunday dinners would be difficult although this is another subject with DH and I because we will have our own family now and want to start our own traditions. For example Christmas I want to have it at our house this year because we will have a newborn and Joe is like not sure how my mom will go for that because they've had Christmas at the house forever, but I really have to start having my own holidays too no?

Luckily it sounds like your DH feels the same way you do. You'll have your hands full to when the baby is first born, so I think that will be a good way to try and make the transition to having Sunday dinner at your home. Good luck! Things will work themselves out, but I don't blame you for worrying.

My family always had Christmas dinner at my parents. The year my nephew was born, just before Christmas, started the tradition of my sister having my family and her in-laws over her house. You'll work it out when the time comes. She may surprise you and be receptive to the idea.

Yeah there's no telling her to smoke outside..plus she's older so I kinda feel like the cold get's to here..ya know. During the summer I must say she does go outside and smoke more because she likes to sit on the patio. I try to let DH handle it and for a while we had an air filter by where she smoked but now she moved it into the bathroom...go figure..LOL. I already mentioned to FH that that defeats the purpose so I think he's going to bring it up to her again. It ***** though because we're going to have to stay there a bit until our financial sitution gets bettter for us to buy another house...unfortunately DH is tied financially to that house.
I know how you feel you love them and don't want to offend them. You are right about wanting to start your own traditions and shouldn't feel bad about it. I know I'd like us to do the same once we have kids. There's nothing wrong with keeping the traditions but moving it to other places...you never know your MIL might welcome that. I know that as people get older the less they want to host...it get's just harder for them and sometimes they welcome the change. Maybe it's just something for him to suggeest and if she says no then at least you guys offered. Maybe you guys can have a Christmas morening traditiona t your house and then join his or your family later on in the day. I know this is how it's done for DH's side...they all go to SIL's house at around 3pm Christmas Day so everyone can be with their own family in the morning.
Good luck...I totally understand your position...it will all work out for the best in the end. You're MIL might be more inclined to move things around to accomdate the baby Grandmother's are just like that
