I usually buy the gift, but sign the card from my Husband and me. Debi is taking me to a spa for a Mothers' Day/Thanks for helping me at kids' camp gift, and Fred plans to buy his Mom a Mothers' Day gift. Donna gave me a card, signed only by her, not Josh, but then, they aren't married yet. So, separate gifts from each kid, to each respective Mom. How do you handle this? PS Hi, everyone!!!!!! Mary MOB

Hi Mary.

I always sign the cards from both of us. I don't know I would feel weird. Even if its a gift for someone that may not know DH I still put both names. I just put whoever is closer to the person- their name first. My friends and family get : Love, Nelly & J and his the opposite.

Hi Mary!

DH and I have been together since we were 15 - since then I have bought the gift and the card and signed the card from both of us - for both families.

While we were dating, I always forgot to put his name on the cards lol But, now that we are married and when we were engaged I put everything from the both of us.

I take care of my family and DH takes care of his - we sign both of our names on any cards. This also goes for calling on the various holidays/special occasions we aren't spending with that side of the family.

Before we were married, separate gifts and cards for parents. For other family members (aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents) it was from both of us. Now I buy everything and it's from both of us.

When it comes to a gift for MIL, dh needs to help take care of that since I'm not always sure what she'd like. But for somebody in MY family, I always fully take care of gifts.

With cards, however, I always handle that no matter who it's too. But Dh has to sign it himself. I hate receiving cards from a couple whereas only one member actually signs it. It makes me assume that it's not really from their spouse since the person couldn't even take a minute to sign it themselves. So I fill it out and then have DH write a little something too.

before we got married it was separate gifts and cards.

then when we moved in with each other we started with joint gifts since our money was basically pooled together at that point (for wedding expenses, rent, utilities etc)

now we only do joint gifts and I sign DH's name on the card so its from the both of us.

we like to be seen as 1 unit and have people know that a gift from one of us comes from the other too...both financially and sentimentally (lol is that a word?)

I have always bought all gifts for both sides and signed the cards from both of us. (I think I started doing that when we were dating for only a few months-----otherwise his family wouldn't have received any gifts bc DH is so lazy!)

Good morning, Girls, and thanks for your responses!!!!! Mary MOB

PS No, Debi and Fred HAVE NOT GOTTEN THEIR VIDEO YET!!!!!!! So disappointing!!!!! They celebrate their First Anniversary on June 21st, so I hope it's finished SOON!!!!!!! I'm not sure, but I think going back to OC, Md., where Fred proposed, is an option they're thinking about, to celebrate their Anniversary. Debi also mentioned having dinner at Atlantica, in Long Island, but I'm not sure if that is for her Birthday, on May 21st, or their Anniversary.
