Helllllllooooooo from the dark side of home renovations. *evil laugh*

Thanks for asking!!

I PROMISE I will do before / after pics... I can try to remember to post the before pictures tonight.

Here's how it's going:

My ILs are here for a week helping and we'd NEVER have gotten half of this done without them!

So far, we've: ripped out all the wallpaper, taken up all the carpet, taken up one section of parquet wood floor that had to be removed, had new appliances delivered, learned we needed a plumber to come in to fix the gas line so we can install the new stove, reinforced the cabinet above the stove so we can mount the microwave, started painting the master bedroom, ripped down all the brick veneer in the kitchen, hired drywallers to cover the brick veneer (living room and dining room) and put new walls in the kitchen and one upstairs bedroom, an electrician, a plumber, and flooring guys, picked our new light fixtures for the dining room and kitchen, picked out paint colors, and demo'd this bizarre wood wall thing they installed in the living room, pulled up all the nails and staples from the carpeting (we're talking 2 staircases, 3 bedrooms, the upstairs hallway, and the living room!), AND hauled all the trash to the dumpster.

I GROSSLY underestimated how much garbage there would be. 2 full floors worth of carpet and padding had to be cut into 3' wide strips, rolled, and bound. An entire room worth of brick veneer had to be bagged (from the kitchen), an entire tile floor and the subfloor had to be cut and bagged, then the small section of parquet we ripped out also had to be bagged -- that was the parquet, the subfloor, the tile floor we found beneath that, and the subfloor beneath the tile. (Finally found the nice wood floors!!) When we tore the carpet out of one room, then took up the pad, we found ANOTHER CARPET. (Seriously, ***?) That carpet was GLUED to the hardwood floors My FIL had to get a crowbar to get it up while I pulled the carpet up.

Today, the electrician is doing a whole bunch of stuff - removing some weird boxes (they had some weird intercom system), fixing switches, installing light fixtures, putting in new outlets and running cable wire behind the walls so we can mount our tv on the wall in the living room, etc. Then the plumber is coming to fix the gas line so we can install the stove. Then the drywallers are starting today. The floor guys (refinishing over 1,000 sf of wood floors + the staircases *faint*) start Wednesday... Plus we have to paint, pick out and install new base molding, pick out and install crown molding... it will never end!

Oh, and we found out they walled in a window in one of the bedrooms upstairs! Thankfully, it's just sheetrock, and we have to re-dry wall that wall anyway. We're going to have them cut out the windo so we can actually see it. Seriously, what is wrong with people?!

We also ordered our new granite countertop, sink, and tile backsplash, which will be installed later this week or first thing next week.

Uh, then there is the problem of finding window treatments for all of the windows... That we will have to do little by little. I think it will never end. We may have to do the base and crown molding after we move in, as our schedule just seems to be getting tighter and tighter...

I've reached new levels of exhaustion with this... and just found out I probably have to pull an all nighter Thursday at work.

But I am excited for it to all be done!

Re: Kara and Todd!!

I had to read that three times!! You have done so much in such a short time. They covered a window with a wall??? That sounds interesting. I can't wait to see pics.

We had a dumpster over the summer and I didn't realize we were charged by the weight of it, I thought we just paid a flat fee for the size. Well stupid me telling me telling the new neighbors throw in any garbage they had the lady next door was throwing in old bricks and belgium blocks. I learned my lesson when the bill came

Re: Kara and Todd!!

Congrats, Kara! i think you posted that the house was in Baldwin? I grew up in Baldwin and my parents are still there. . . .where in Baldwin are you?

also, Baldwin is really starting to turn around commerce wise (the strip of Grand Ave. by Merrick Rd. has improved a lot) and despite what a lot of people say, the school district is still very good.

HAPPINESS and HEALTH to you both in your new home!!!
