Kitchen Appliances Recommendations

Kitchen Appliances Recommendations

We are finally getting a kitchen (very long story).

So, we have to go appliance shopping.

I have some ideas of what I want, but thought that I could ask for opinions, if you don't mind...

Refrigerator - I like those french-door ones that have 2 doors on the top and the freezer on the bottom. Seems like there is more room on the top.

Dishwasher - I've heard that Bosch is very quiet. That's important because our kirchen, dining room, and living room are really one big room.

Electric Stove - I'm thinking about ones with a flat surface, not four coils.

Any opinions would be GREATLY appreciated.

TIA

no flat surfaces!!!!!!! I HATE THEM. PIA to clean. I have one in our apartment and it looks dirty all the time. I use all the special cleaners on it and it still looks dirty.

As far as appliances my parents just redid their house and got new appliances I will see what brands they got but they have the two doors on top with freezer on the bottom which is really handy I have to say, they also got a dishwasher with two draws WHICH I LOVE!!!

I LOVE the refridgerators that have the freezer on the bottom. I hope to own one one day hehe

I also don't know much about dishwashers, but I do know that you can help eliminate alot of the noise by the way you install the water lines. My uncle is a contractor and he installed one in my moms apartment, and you never hear it. Not even when the water is draining and you usually hear it in the sink? There is something you can put on the hose I think to stop that noise , but I am not 100% sure right now of what it is lol :(

I am personally not a fan of electric stoves, but if you have to have one, you have to have one. I like the flat top ones that turn red when hot, and then all of a sudden you can turn it off and it will be cool! I love those haha

good luck hun! Have fun :) I love getting new appliances hehe

We have the Kitchenaid collection in stainless steel and it seriously is the best kitchen set-up ever! Very easy to clean and the refrigerator is HUGE! It's the french door top/freezer bottom and I can seriously fit five of me in the top part alone! I'd be careful with flat surface stoves...although they heat up fast and get really hot, they are hard to clean and can get damaged easily. HTH

flat top stoves are horrible. such a pain to clean and god forbid if you boil something over and it burns.. it is such a pain to clean. they look nice, but honestly, i dont recommend them.

I don't know if the bottom freezer fridges come with the water/ice dispenser on the outside. DH insisted on it when we got appliances and I thought it was a waste of money, but now I love it and would never go back.

Yes, they do. My parents have an LG french door w/ freezer bottom and ice/water in door. It's awesome!! It's a monster of fridge!

My ILs have whirlpool gold series dishwasher adn its really quiet. They are more affordable than Bosch too.

Hi, Diane!!!! Well, after 36 yrs. of marriage and lots of appliances, I love Maytag and Kitchenaid-very dependable. If the economy ever improves I would love to get new appliances, stainless steel, french door frig/freezer on bottom, so I don't have to bend over to see what leftovers my DH pushed to the back, and a double drawer dishwasher, because I'm tired of bending over, and a smooth cooktop/double wall oven, because I hate cleaning spills out of drip pans/rings!!!! After getting a Samsung TV and really liking it, I might try Samsung appliances!! Mary MOB

My in laws have one of those fridge/freezers that you are talking about. There is a ton of room and I really like it. The fridge/freezer is an LG. They also have an LG dishwasher and it's so quiet you can barely tell it's on. I love the stainless steel look too. Good luck!

ETS: The freezer on the bottom is a drawer that pulls out. Easy to get to the ice too that way.

Agree with the flat top stove. I was so excited about it but eh. I like the even heating, the big burners. But it's always dirty and always smells like something's burning. The special cleaner is a joke and you need a special scarper to get the burned stuff off, but the top scratches so easily that I'm scared to use it. They also can crack pretty easily.

For dishwasher I got a GE quiet power2...honestly I bought it out of box b/c it was a real steal like $125 but I love it, it is very quiet and it has a crystal setting. Yes, I couldn't believe it at first but its fine to wash my crystal in there - my Mom was so amazed lol.

my mom used a gas range her whole life and just switced to an electric glass top stove a few years ago (when she moved to florida - no gas stoves where she is) and she loves the electric stove - she says it is so much easier to clean - i guess it depends on how well you clean your gas stove ....some people don't clean the grates but my mom always scrubbed them and so do i and its a pain in the a$$.....she said its way less maintenance cleaning the electric since its just a cooktop to clean - you don't have to take anything apart to clean it....

id love to have a viking or electrolux kicthen one day but that will never happen

I have to warn anyone who wants to buy a fridge with a freezer on the bottom. Avoid, Avoid, Avoid. We have one what a pain in the a*s. Stuff falls behind the freezer (you had to remove the whole draw and most of the time all of the food to get to the fallen stuff) and it doesn't hold as much as a normal fridge! We have a GE. My mom has the same set up freezer on the bottom, she hates her more than I hate mine, she just got her in Nov, a whirlpool and its a nightmare, holds next to nothing, and its always is icing up. Even had the repair man come to look at it, and he said its normal for the freezers on the bottom. I would never get one these again!

All of ours are LG (Fridge like you mentioned with freezer on bottom, dishwasher, stove, microwave...) And so far we really like them all..no complaints!

And I second the Keurig coffee maker...I'm not a huge coffee drinker, which I think makes it so nice - if I just want one cup, I don't have to make a whole pot...And it's great for entertaining - everyone loves that they get to pick their own flavor!

I think that must be an issue with the GE model and that is good for people to know.

I can tell you that I have the Kitchenaid Architect II series with the freezer on the bottom and we NEVER have a problem with icing, have so much room in the freezer and the fridge with the french doors. We got it in the biggest size the fridge comes in...maybe the GE is different.

I agree with the coffee comment. Every time we have friends over, I am making about 6-10 DIFFERENT flavors/types of coffee/tea and everyone loves the variety!
