Ladies with Dogs?

Ladies with Dogs?

We just moved into our new place, our dog uses his bowl for water and food and it's in the kitchen but when he drinks water he slobbers all over the kitchen floor and it's making me crazy because I constantly have to mop it! In our old place his bowl wasn't in the kitchen so it wasn't an issue. If you keep your dog dishes in the kitchen how do you deal with this?? We also have a large dog so it's quite the slober!

How about a placemat on the floor underneath. My dog is med size, but he probably had a stroke and is paralyzed on the right side. I understand slober. I also had a great dane, very large dog. There are stands you can put the food and water on and place a mat underneath that also. HTH

No we have a placemat underneath but when he is done drinking it travels with him past the bowl so I am thinking i really have to almost get a full rug in the kitchen!

My lab does the same thing. We have a doggy mat underneath his dish but as he walks away it just drips on the wood floors!! I don't think any thing can be done about it. We just have to mop it up!

my dog's food is next to his cage which is in the livingroom carpet. most people i know that have it on tile put a place-mat underneath.

We have a beagle, so he isn't that big, but when he drinks, he gets it on the floor b/c his ears are so big and they go in the water dish whenever he drinks lol It's cute. I just put a small, cheap rug from IKEA under his dish that seems to help.

I totally feel your pain with the slobber issue! Ozzie slobbers ALL the time, but its the worst right after he eats or drinks. We keep rags in every room of the house and he knows now that Mommy wipes his mouth/jowls after he's done b/c I refuse to have my clothes or furniture covered in his drool LOL! He's really good about it. He just gives me his face and I wipe him off LOL!

Our dog just developed this new habit too, but with treats!! She has to bring it back to the living room rug and take it apart! We vacuum almost daily regardless because she sheds. but now she added crumbs!

To answer the OP we use a placemat as well.

UGH i hate this! I have the same problem with Sophie. She seriously doesn't know how to swallow, we have the placemat and everything. I'm learning to accept the fact that my kitchen floor will have forever puddles

Have you seen the dog doing that? Rats/field mice will also do that.

Re: Ladies with Dogs?

did you ever see a pic of my dog? you can't imagine how much of a mess she makes when she eats or drinks....

we have a special towel for her - and like a baby we wipe her mouth after she drinks and after she eats - its the only way.....she likes it though - i've been doing it since she is a puppy so she doesn't like being slobbery and now she always wants to be cleaned its cute though...its really the only way to keep the house clean - sometimes i don't get her in time and sometimes there are little drips here and there but wiping her down is pretty effective....of course when we aren't home she makes a mess if she eats or drinks but what can you do?

i tried placemats near her bowl and that just made it worse b/c the water would get under the placemats and just sit there....it was gross.....best thing for us is to just chase her around and wipe her face down

My dogs dont drool when they drink. We do have a placemat under the bowls.

My aunt on the other hand has a great dane.. The biggest freakin dog. And boy can she drool. Its so nasty when she drinks. My aunt keeps paper towels by her bowl or just a small towel.

I already posted above but I do the same thing! It's not so much the mouth area as the jowles (is that the right word?). We have rags all over the house for him and I constantly wipe his mouth - too funny!!! Nice to know there are others out there like us

My dog is a mess with the paraylsis on the right side, you can wipe him all day but he always gets you, esp when you are dressed and ready to go out. It is not just after he eats or drinks. He can smell food and salvate all over or when he is hot and panting. I give guests napkins to keep onhand. My walls, tvs, doors, cabinets,tv stand get it too, that is were the magic eraser works its charm.

Re: Ladies with Dogs?

I wish I could follow Buster around with a towel to wipe his mouth but that would be a losing battle!!!! In the move we found an area rug we use to keep in the laundry room but now when guests aren't here we will put it in the kitchen and hopefully it will catch the initial slobber he leaves but I think I am going to have to keep the swiffer on hand! I am glad I am not the only one who has to go through this. When my mother was here helping us move and saw this she almost had heart failure. she doesn't really like dogs lol!

Our dog doesn't slobber, but has water that drips from his fur when he walks away from his dish. IL's dog slobbers so MIL put almost like a tray underneath to catch the water. Helps keep messes where they are and not all over the rest of the kitchen.
