I haven't been on for a while so I am not sure if this was discussed. A women who was raped at 21st Ely Station in LIC lost her suit to the MTA (how want to raise the fair). She was drag by a man down the stairs while a worker just watched. It's so crazy! I can't believe a human being can just see that and only call the cops. I hope she wins on appeal. Our legal system is appalling at times.

Re: LIC Train Rapist
I saw this last night on the news. It really is disturbing how a person could just sit there and watch this. They didn't even call for help. I hope she wins on appeal as well. She deserves justice.

Re: LIC Train Rapist
I do understand the MTA has policies and I am sure him staying in his booth is one of their policies but still, he could have shouted out through the mic and he didn't. Obviously MTA's policies are not keeping the public safe. They should provide their employees with training for situation like these. I still think the MTA should be held accountable for their employee's lack of action.

I'm sorry but if my DH saw a woman getting raped, policy or not policy, he would have done something that involved his fist! What a coward!

Re: LIC Train Rapist
no; they held for the MTA!!!!!!!!!! I am so angry. I don't know the full details, but when I have gotten off at that stop I have notice that the man there at those time is over 50 yrs if not 60, so I may understand that he feared for his life as well, but that is still no excuse. He could have shout through the mic, geesh I do not know who wouldn't at least do that. It is so sad. Once again I understand that there are policies, but I feel a fair justice should know how to get around it to get justice.

Re: LIC Train Rapist
What's worse that I am SHOCKED!!!! that the MTA want to raise their prices when there is no security! The problem is that this case is not getting enough media coverage. When I get home I will write to Tyra in hopes of it getting more air time.

Re: LIC Train Rapist
Wouldn't the employee have had a way to get in touch with the police from the inside of the booth? If they couldn't leave the booth, they should have shouted into the Mic and then immediately called the police and let the assailant know the police had been called and were coming right away. That alone might have scared the assailant away.

Re: LIC Train Rapist
Crashing! A few years ago, one of my ex-coworkers was assaulted at the 7th Avenue 1,2,3 train station in NYC. A man literally beat the **** out of her to get her purse. There was a person in the booth and they did not get out to help. When her lawyers contacted the MTA, they said the same thing- that workers are instructed no to leave their booths for any reason because it could a diversion for a terrorist attack. While I can see their point, I still think it is total BS that someone can get the **** beat out of them in front of the booth and the person does not come out to help.
two mta workers saw this, and although they followed procedure, this case lets everyone know that these procedures need to be changed. i'm also afraid it will let would-be attackers know that the agent booths are required to stay put, and can get away with anything. it's disgusting!

I know it's terrible, but it's for the employees safety. God forbid these people had a weapon and killed both the victim and the MTA employee? MTA isn't the only company with policies like this.

Re: LIC Train Rapist
oh no I never heard about this, but it makes me ILL!! I just don't see how somebody could watch this and not do anything. I totally understand not coming OUT of the booth (even tho a real man would probably do it anyhow in that kind of situation) but at least call the cops - did he??? I couldn't figure it out by these posts if he even dialed 9-1-1 at all.
I really hope that she gets justice. I think getting airtime IS important, so you should def write to Tyra about it if you think that'll help.

Re: LIC Train Rapist
That is scary. I have heard other people on here (LIW) say they were mugged and screamed and no one helped. That scares me alot.

This is just amazingly distrubing. I can't believe he didn't do aything to help that poor woman. I hope she appeals and wins. It's a moral responsibility as a human to help some in danger.

Re: LIC Train Rapist
Policy or no policy if that was the judges daughter or the MTA employees daughter they I am sure would want someone to help and be there for her.
And okay I understand about terrorists and sh*t but COME ON NOW you are a man, and no matter what I know my Dh would help a woman in need especially in a situation like that even if he was told not to get out of that booth. IF the man was older sitting in that booth at least scream through the speaker you called the cops and they are on their way and oyu see what he is doing.
but for that poor woman to look into that mans eyes and for him not to even say anything and watch her being dragged down those stairs is DISGUSTING!!!! I mean he could have told her to jump over the turn style and run into his booth at least something!

OMG that is crazy, how can that man live with himself. Ive taken the train from that station many times too Its a big station and in the daytime its very packed bc its an industrial area but at night its dead there usually since after 5pm well rush hour not many ppl. But sometimes I take the ride with DH to LIC and take the E from there since its a short ride to the city from there. Not as much now since he mostly works out of the LI office now but sometimes he still has to go to the LIC office and its on the corner of that station.

Re: LIC Train Rapist
I completely agree that this decision is horrific.Unfortunately, the law is the law, city employees (NYPD, FDNY and Transit who are many times held to the same standards) don't have a legal duty to act on behalf of any individual person. They are there to protect the public and the law is clear about individual protection. I still cant fully comprehend how this rule of law works, but it ***** either way. I read she is going to appeal....i think the city should settle the case for the benefit of the woman and for the benefit of not looking like a bunch of insensitive A Holes!

I know they have a phone in the booth, I always see the token booth people on it chatting away. They could have called the cops, shouted or something.

i dont know where the booth is at ELY ave bc if youre on one side there is none around its horrible, not even a booth with nobody in there but nothing at all. Maybe on the complete other side but ive never seen it. Its a big station, one time i had to transfer to the 7 there, which is all the way on the other side of where i was and to get on the 7 its metrocard transfer. Well i only needed it for 1 way and was looking for a booth bc i only had a 20 and for a single ride i wasnt going to put in a $20 and there was no booth. I had to get out of the station and walk down to where the 7 at another station to get a metrocard from a booth
