Lower the music

Lower the music

UNBELIEVABLE. I get a call from my complex at 1:30 saying the woman upstairs (who is like 200 years old) is complaining the music is too loud. The music has been the same volume all summer and we havent had a complaint all summer. She has complained about this since we moved in. And the whole reason for her complaining is not that the music is too loud, its that she doesnt want us playing music at all. Are you kidding me? We pay rent to live in this apartment and some old woman who isnt related to me is telling me I cant play music? And the worst part is, she probably cant even hear it! Its her maids and the people who come to take care of her who say its too loud.

I told the woman who called that I refused to lower my music and she then says the building will fine the woman we rent from. WHAT?!! They havent even been here to decide whether the music is loud or not. So she says why would the woman upstairs lie?? OH I DUNNO MAYBE BECAUSE SHE LIED AND SAID WE WERE USING HER WASHING MACHINE AND DETERGENT WHEN WE WERENT OR WE LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN?? I dont understand, if you dont want noise why live in a two family house? Why not live all by your miserable lonesome in a big old one person mansion? Okay vent over.

Re: Lower the music

I am sure theres some set of rules, and from what i know most will say you can play music whenever you want up until 11pm so they cant say anything. And i know where you live and dont think they can fine you for music, we used to play music loud during weekends at bbq's, and not just us but in that neighborhood EVERYONE has bbq's in the summer. They even close down some of the blocks to have huge block parties so if thats allowed, im sure your music is allowed.

I would call back and ask what the rules are regarding playing music. And that from what you know you have the right to do so until a certain time, so how can you be fined if youre following what the rules say. Also say that you hope they arent making you following rules that are not applied to others bc this would be wrong. They'll listen bc they get sued all the time believe it or not and always afraid of this hahaha.

Re: Lower the music

people are so rude! Sorry you have to deal with it.

A little old man that lives next to us asked if we could keep the tv in our bedroom lower because his bedroom backs up to ours. He said he can hear it late at night. he was very nice to us about it, however, the tv in our bedroom has been broken for 2.5 months now. So we told him that and suggested maybe it was from the people above him. DH and I turned on the tv in our living room and went to our bedroom to see if we could hear it and we couldn't. So I hope he didn't do a complant about us!

I agree- you should def call- you dont want to deal with them sending out a fine.

Re: Lower the music

The rules are we can be fined after 11 PM. And once while I was at work and DH was out my sister was staying here and she got us fined cause she was playing music loud past 11. So I know those are the rules. Her threat right now was just to upset me. And Im not a cruel person. I understand the woman upstairs is 96 and I will admit I have played my music loud but I stopped doing that. I play it loud enough so I can hear it in the other rooms while cleaning. I just dont understand why someone is dictating what I can do in my own house, when I PAY RENT HERE. Part of me thinks its cause they know were young and thats what upsets them up there. I told the woman we rent from and she always sides with us. And DH called the complex back and talked to the woman cause he was so livid. She apologized.

Am I evil for feeling like I should have the right to play music in my own house even if the woman upstairs is a little old lady??

ill be very honest with you Lea, in that neighborhood they are a bit biased and tend to go out of their way for those who live there a VERY long time, it can be annoying. If she lives there for a while thats why they even called. Did chris call back just now? if so then good that she apologized. Hey even if someone doesnt like the loud music you are playing, you cant get fined for it since rules say that you are allowed to do so until 11pm. They can call you of course to ask you to turn it down but she should've been the one to call you, not call GBC to complain to you.

You have the same rights as everyone else in that neighborhood. And people play loud music, they have parties in front of their yards all the time and many even go past 11pm. I never saw any of these ppl have the cops called on them OR ever got a fine for doing this.

Dont let them feel you did anything wrong. Like i said, they've had problems with getting sued so let them know that you know what your rights are.

Its true. They are biased. And you hit the nail on the head. CALL US or call the woman we rent from or HELL even come downstairs and ask us to lower it. But the fact that they feel the need to call the complex to complain about EVERY LITTLE THING is what infuriates me.

When we first moved in we told the woman if she ever needed anything or any help to let us know. We were ready to be there for this old woman. And you know what she does? She calls our phone early AM when we BOTH used to work nights and says she thinks were doing something down here that making the wall upstairs chip. We told her we werent doing any work down here and we were sleeping so she then asks Christian if he will try and climb onto the roof to see if it was a squirrel?!!! He told her he couldnt do that and that he had gotten home from work a few hours earlier and thats when her hatred for us started LOL. Cause he wouldnt climb on the roof to chase a squirrel.

I do have the same rights and Ive seen the block parties. Thats why I put my foot down this time. But I cant help but think to myself, am I being unreasonable?? Should I be nicer since she's old. But weve dealt with so much from her in the 5 years of living here.

yeah ive seen how biased they can be, and let me tell you that those who live there a long time know this and use it to their advantage. I used to get annoyed with that, they think they own the neighborhood lol.

I understand you feeling bad that you might be bothering her, so its up to you if you want to lower the music. But i also understand that its your house its where you live and you should do things that you want to do. And shouldn't always be told you cant play music, or get calls early in the morning to ask what youre doing meanwhile youre sleeping, or complaining that you use her washing machine lol and leaving the door open. Makes you feel like you cant do anything there. I would understand if you were having late night parties and being disrespectful but its not the case, so she has to be understanding too. Ive had neighbors who play very loud music when i dont care to hear it but you deal with it. I am sure the same has happened vice versa.

maybe go and talk to her, and say that you dont mean to bother her and you thought the music was low. Maybe try to tell her that unfortunately during the day you cant keep quiet completely and if walls are thin then theres nothing you can do. But if she has any requests to call you directly next time.

I would love to talk to her but the complex actually threatened to fine us if we talked to her about anything she complained about. YES they actually said that. Like were gonna go upstairs and beat her to death or something. They have the worst impression of us its not even funny!

the noise pollution law is either 10 or 11 not sure if that changes for weekend days. BUT i will say that living in an apartment complex myself you can hear a lot more then you think people can hear!! lol i get to go to sleep almost nightly to the sounds of my upstairs neighbors having sex...and i mean SEX loud every time headboard banging on the wall moaning and all!! and sometime this goes on till all hours of the night! but most nights i go to bed around 10 or 11 because i have to be up at 6 so i can hear there TV i want to say they have surround sound cuz the bass is so loud it rumbles my walls! and the people next door having music playing daily that i cant sit in my own lliving room and watch TV. i have a feeling they dont think its very loud at all but its the bass that gets to me, and i dont mean to sound like the grouchy old lady but sometimes after i have worked all week im exausted and would like to sit on my own couch and watch a movie with out hearing the one upstairs! lol

This is exactly why I needed to have my own house. We lived in a condo where we actully owned the place and paid a mortgage and had the same issues with people telling us what to do. I hope you stand your ground! You have the same rights as her. good luck!!!

See the times that you complain about the noise are understandable! After work or at nights when trying to sleep. We dont ever really play anything loud at nights or even in the early evening. She complains when I play music at 12-3 PM. And thats really the ONLY times I play music since thats when I clean. Otherwise Im just watching TV. I totally take into consideration that playing loud music even after 5 PM might be annoying for people coming home from work. I would hate that. But in the afternoon??? CMON!
