he is the guy who stole 68 billion dollars from people. He was the chairman of Nasdaq and he invested for people. He was able to get away with it bc what people do is they invest this money and what rich people do is live off the percentage, so people for years were getting the percentage owed to them but then this came out. Some people lost 5 million dollars, others 30 million. Lots of celebrities lost alot of money too, Steven Spielberg lost alot and Kevin bacon and his wife lost alot too. SOme people are now broke bc of him.

These poor people. IF there is a lesson to be learned from this....Its to NOT put all your eggs in one basket. We have our investments all over the place...not with just one guy! Some of these people lost there entire life savings....It makes me so mad!

I couldn't agree more, I've been saying this alot and don't get the whole thing about investing ALL your money. It came up again when I was watching something else about a man who had all his savings in stocks and lost it all. I feel horrible but I never understood this. Hey if you have the money then invest it but not everything. Keep a good chunk in the bank to have no matter what. Stocks are never guaranteed, its a risk no matter what.

I know with Madoff some of the situations were different.

Thank you Denise for clearing that up! I don't know why I haven't even heard about all this, but that is some crazy stuff!! I don't understand how he could get away with it. People go to prison for much less.

well its a big case right now and he has been on house arrest the last few months. He has to have security with him whenever he does leave bc he is afraid for his life. Finally going to trial, first he was pleading guilty but now not guilty. Plus he is trying to keeping like $60 million of his own money by saying its in his wifes bank account and its hers, meanwhile she hasnt worked a day in her life lol.

He lives right by Hunter College just off of Lexington on 65th or 66th. I can't remember but I passed it last night and Tuesday night and there were news vans surrounding the corner.

Re: Madoff

The thing that is insane is that many intelligent, wordly people invested EVERYTHING with this man. I'm no business major but I know that you must DIVERSIFY.

I feel terrible for those that lost everything. It is really incredibly sad.

Re: Madoff

He needs to be ordered to sell everything and turn over all of his assets to the government. Too bad his wife will be penniless - they should know how it feels to have your life savings taken from you!!!!

He is a dirtbag - plain and simple.

I'm glad they took him straight to jail...something they shoudl've done long ago instead of letting him stay in his penthouse.
