Portland is supposed to be beautiful. I'd go somewhere on the water so you can visit the lighthouses.
i went there years ago. we went wherever the ll bean outlet is. it was beauitful, but somewhat cold for august.

and also portsmouth, NH is across the border from York Maine - if you go there you must eat at Warren's Lobster House!

yes bar harbour is right by acadia, and acadia is beautiful. if you go you should bike ride and hike to the top of cadillac mountain. if price is not an issue i would stay at the bar harbor inn right on the water; otherwise there are tons of B&Bs. what time of year are you going?

We are going around June. Is acadia the national park?
