Marriage Certificate (vent)

OK, its been 2 1/2 months since the wedding, no marriage certificate!!! sorry, had to vent this. whenever we call the town clerk's office (manhasset) the people are either rude or very unconcerned.

I understand that in the summer people take vacations, and there are a lot of weddings, etc. but NO ONE i know has had to wait this long for it..

Does anyone have any idea how to get more information (maybe from Albany, which is presumably where it is being held up)? DH is going to the town clerk's office Monday, to see if he can't raise some he**, and speak to a supervisor. but i was wondering if anyone else had such a problem..

If all I can do is wait, so be it.. but UGH! I just want to change my name and have it done already - i hate this limbo...

Thanks for listening!!

Re: Marriage Certificate (vent)

Sorry it's taking so long

Have you checked with the person that married you to make sure he/she sent it in? We used Manhasset and had it back in two weeks.

I think your DH going there is a good thing sometimes in person is the only way to get things done.

Re: Marriage Certificate (vent)

I agree. We got ours in Manhasset and had it back in a week. I would check with whoever married you to make sure they mailed it in.

Re: Marriage Certificate (vent)

It's up to the Town Clerk's Office to mail it to you. The law is that the officiant has 5 days to mail it back to the Clerk's Office, and after that, the clerk's office mails it to the person.

I would definately call your officiant. What it sounds like is that they forgot to mail it back. Good luck!

Re: Marriage Certificate (vent)

def. check with your officiant - and paying the clerk a visit couldn't hurt either. We had ours by the time we got back from our honeymoon, 2 wks after the wedding. It's seems a bit odd for yours to be taking so long - you have a very understandable reason to vent! :) good luck, I hope you get it soon!

Re: Marriage Certificate (vent)

part of it was the officiant's fault - he forgot the year or something on some dates, etc..
so the town clerk sent back to him and he sent back to town clerk. and everything went to Albany on 6/25, about 3wks after wedding - so the clerk in Manhasset tells us.

so i was hoping to have something by July at least! so yea, this is nuts.. I just have this bad feeling someone lost it somewhere!!!

Thanks for listening!!!

Re: Marriage Certificate (vent)

It should be Manhasset that sends you the certificate, not Albany- they screwed up and didn't send you your certificate. Did they say they were going to send it to you?

Re: Marriage Certificate (vent)

No, Manhasset said they sent it to Albany for processing, and i assume it gets sent back to Manhasset - and somewhere along the way grows from a completed marriage license to a marriage certificate..

That's my understanding - thanks for asking tho... maybe we'll just go to city hall and do it all over again and get one right away lol!!!
